On November 11-22 Opa! Opa! Greek Restaurant and Sweeties Dessert Bar located at the corner of 57th and J Street is helping to raise funds for River Park resident and mother Angela Glasgow. Angela is a native Sacramentan married to her college sweetheart and mother of a six year old son and 8 year old daughter.Last fall Angela needed a routine chest x-ray to confirm signs of pneumonia. Her doctors discovered a large tumor in her chest which doctors identified as a rare and aggressive form of cancer called thymic carcinoma.
Angela received chemotherapy at Mercy Hospital, with a combination of three drugs carrying such risk that she was admitted to the hospital for five days for each round of treatment. After completing four rounds of chemo, a final preoperative scan identified a second tumor - this one in Angela's pituitary gland - which doctors explained had been feeding her cancer "like fertilizer."
In the spring, Angela underwent a serious thoracic surgery at Stanford University Hospital to remove her first tumor - the size of a tennis ball - from its location next to her heart. Three months later, a team of doctors at Stanford performed brain surgery to remove her pituitary tumor. Her condition continues to be monitored by specialists both locally and at Stanford.
Angela is continuing to recover from the side effects of her chemotherapy treatments and surgeries. She considers herself lucky to be alive and enjoys every waking moment with her loving family, having learned first hand that life is too short and precious to take anything for granted.
On November 12th through the 15th Opa! Opa! is helping Angela and her family recover from the tremendous financial stress that has resulted from her ongoing battle with cancer.
