It's that time of year again -- when moms everywhere feverishly break out the sunscreen as soon as their children step outside. The MommyDocs medical site, www.mommydocs.com, has some tips on choosing the best products to protect your kids from the sun this summer:

• Look for sunscreens with an SPF (Sun Protection Factor) level of 15 or more, and with the ability to block UVA and UVB rays ("broad spectrum" coverage). Products containing zinc oxide, titanium dioxide, oxybenzone, avobenzone, sulisobenzone and mexoryl are good choices.

• Children should wear hats, and sunglasses with 99-100 percent UVA and UVB protection. If you are interested in sun-protective clothing, make sure the items have an Ultraviolet Protection Factor (UPF) of 30 or more.

• Wearing sunscreen should become a habit for your child. You should apply it 30 minutes before sun exposure, and reapply it every two hours, or sooner when doing activities that can cause sunscreen to come off.

• Make sure your child and his or her caregivers know to reapply sunscreen throughout the day.
