The 4th of July has been celebrated in Columbia since 1852. This year, Saturday, July 4th, the festivities  begin with the flag raising and firing of the old cannon at 10 a.m. March in the glorious 4th parade (groups or individuals) or watch from the sidelines on Main Street at noon. Only rules for parade entrants are: no animals over 100 pounds and no vehicles newer than 1959. The Great Mother Lode Brass & Reed Band will play a free concert at 1:15, and old fashioned contests are staggered throughout the afternoon. Climbing the Greased Pole for a cash prize and the Egg Toss are two favorites among the kids, but there are many more. A tri-tip BBQ dinner will be served at 4 p.m.--$8 adults, $5 children under 10. Columbia's Glorious 4th of July Celebration is sponsored by the Columbia Chamber of Commerce. Call 209-536-1672 or visit our Website at www.columbiacalifornia.com.
