I met Danny Thomas and his wife Mary. I had a friend who played for the LA Dodgers. He used to leave me tickets so that I could attend and Mr. Thomas was a huge baseball fan. My tickets were in the same area as the wives, which is also where Mr. Thomas and his wife always sat. One day I got up the nerve to go and speak to him. Both he and his wife, Mary, were very nice. From then on whenever I attended a ball game I would sit with them. It is one of my most pleasant memories.

Many years ago (or so it seems), I worked in the hotel industry. One of our guests was Barry "Greg Brady" Williams. He came in and stood behind his manager as I checked him in. He asked me where the elevator was, and I was so starstruck that I could only stare at him and point down the hall. A few months later, the members of Marilyn Manson stayed at our hotel. They were on the rise to fame, and Marilyn was mad that I recognized him. I ended up talking to the one with the green hair (Daisy?) for several hours about what it was like being on the road. I think he appreciated being able to talk to somebody like a person rather than a rock star. I also met members of the Goo Goo Dolls, Modern English, and many other bands. The most polite and "down to earth" celebrity I have ever met is Waylon Jennings. He was a fun person to talk to when it was a slow time at work.

I worked at the city's last original soda fountain when I was in high school, near 39th and J Streets in East Sac. One day, Sacramento native Tom Hanks came walking in. He was in town visiting and brought with him his school-aged son, whom he shared custody of at the time. Having grown up in that neighborhood, apparently Tom used to hang out there when he was a kid. He wasn't terribly friendly, and I recall he kept his sunglasses on the whole time -- probably more interested in quality time with his son than being recognized. But when I asked for an autograph, he quickly complied. Wish I remembered now where I saved it!

Jane Fonda was married to a legislator way back in the days. On her travel to Sacramento she would work out at Capital Athletic Club, and we all know she is a workout fanatic. Well back in those days I was a work out fanatic too and a member of the Capital Athletic Club. There she was, Jane Fonda, I could see her in the reflection of the mirror as I worked out, I didn't want to stare, but I did. She looked fabulous. Then she was off the workout machine. I was almost done, but expedited my workout to get another glimpse. I entered the women's locker room and there she was, Jane Fonda all naked! Yikes I was so embarssed that I ran out, I did however manage to get a good look and I have to tell you she is quite fit and toned. I didn't want to get caught stocking her again, so I just did another 30 minutes on the stairmaster. I guess I was inspired by her healthy and toned body. Thank you Jane Fonda for inspiring me.

When I was 16 years old my mom and dad took me and my sister to Hawaii. We stayed at the illikai hotel which was a popular hotel back in it's day. One day I was sitting by the pool when Elvis Presley walked out by the pool with a group of his body guards or friends. I could only look up at him with my mouth hanging open I guess. He looked down and said "how you doing ?". I think I mumbled something like "fine". He turned then and walked back inside the hotel. Later that day as I was about to take the elevator and go up to my parents room, who should walk into the hotel? Priscilla Presley! She didn't say anthing to me but I had to stop and stare again. She had the big black hair and black eye liner caked on just like you've seen in early pictures of her. I know I'll never forget that experience. Since then I've run into celebrities here and there. Danny Thomas and his family having dinner at the restaurant in Harrah's at Lake Tahoe. Sac Kings Bobby Jackson at Lowe's in Citrus Heights. Sammy Davis Jr at Scofield Army Base in Hawaii where he was doing a show. Mike Bibby at Home Depot in Roseville. But Elvis tops them all. He was so handsome!

My office produces an annual awards show in Hollywood so I've had the pleasure of meeting Stevie Wonder, John Landis (I gushed over the work he did on Michael Jackson's Thriller video), Barry Manilow, Joe Mantegna, James Avery, Jason George, Mindy Sterling (LOVE The Office), Camryn Manheim, Robert Guiallme, etc. At concerts I've met Brian Mcknight and Beyonce.
But my fun celebrity stories are the ones where I have no idea who the heck the person is. In 2000, I was standing in line back stage at a concert waiting to get Brian McKnight's autograph. My friend went to the bathroom and I started to make small talk with the guys behind me. They were super tall so I broke the ice by saying, "either I'm very short (I'm 5 feet) or you guys are very tall." We start talking about random stuff like the weather and what we ate for dinner and then I blurted out, "not to stereotype you or anything but have you ever thought about playing basketball?" They said they play now and then with friends. When my friend comes back from the bathroom she puts the death grip on my arm and asks me if I know who I'm talking to. I mention to the guys that I didn't catch their names...turns out it was Chris Webber and Latrell Sprewell.
Last summer my daughter went to Kevin Martin's basketball camp. On the first day when I went to pick her up I walked into the gym and watched the coaches working with the kids. One of the coaches came and stood next to me to observe from the side and take a break. I start to ask him how my daughter is doing and he tells me she's a great ball player and can really handle her own on the court with the boys. Then I ask if he's just working for the camp as part of a summer job. He smiles and nods...a few kids run over and ask to take a picture with him. I'm trying to figure out why they want a picture with some kid working at basketball camp...you know where I'm going with this...it was Kevin Martin. I don't follow basketball and people had told me that most celebrities who put their names on these camps don't usually show up so I wasn't actually expecting him to be there.

At the end of this tremendously successful campaign, we have a very nice annual Thank You Luncheon at the Sheraton Grand Sacramento Hotel. Over 200 people attended, including our Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger. He shared his experience as a Chair of the statewide campaign and thank you everybody for generous donations. His appearance was very unexpected (it was not listed in the event program), but definitely pleasant and memorable surprise for a lot of attendees.

<itunes:summary>My uncle is Dick Cable from the Channel 10 news! He isn't reporting anymore, but people still remember him!
I've also met John Travolta~ Granted I was two and don't remember it, but my mom said I made him smile.
I've also met Pete Wilson, John Garamendi, Heather Fargo, and a few assembly members from Sacramento.

On a flight from Las Vegas to Sacramento, I saw Scott Pollard, who was then playing for the Sacramento Kings. Being a Kings fan, I immediately began looking for something on which I could get his autograph. Having travelled light, all I could find was the barf bag in from seat pocket in front of me. He gave me a funny look at my request, but signed the barf bag with a grin!
