It is finding 1,001 different ways to make chicken taste good without using anything "wierd".
It is eating the dessert the kids couldn't finish.
It is playing sports you've never tried before so the kids can try everything out there.

    learning to laugh through frustration
    enjoying your 1 millionth tea party when you are dead on your feet from a long day at work
    figuring out out to make dinner out of leftover rice, frozen peas, and a scrambled egg
    learning not to care when your Coach bag is encrusted with ice cream and unwashable marker
    having courage when you have never been more scared
    learning to lock the bathroom door so that you can pee by yourself and not feel guilty about it!

Motherhood means learning to enjoy the journey.
Motherhood teaches you it is hard to be a "me" person when a "we" is involved.
Motherhood is the ultimate gift that keeps on giving.
Motherhood means forever having your heart walk around outside of your body.
☺        ☺        ☺

Top Ten Ways I Knew I Was a Mother:

10. Cleaning up someone else’s bodily fluids didn’t gross me out.
  9. Seeing a kid’s dirty face and Gatorade mustache went from “ewww” to
       “awww”.
  8. Staying up all night no longer came with an accompanying hangover.
  7. I suddenly cared about when teeth erupted.
  6. I knew all the characters names on Seasame Street again.
  6b. I owned goldfish named Elmo and Dorothy.
5. I could go nowhere without Goldfish crackers.
4. I have photographic proof of my child’s first bowel movement (and every
     other first).
3. Hearing Jingle Bells sung every day of the year doesn’t bother me.
2. I regularly serve food in nugget form.
1. Having my woo-hoo stretched the size of a watermelon is the best thing
     I’ve ever done.

What...

Ohhh nice idea!
What Motherhood Means To Me:

~Always being there for your child. Ears open, mind open, heart open, arms open WIDE (mouth shut when you can)

~Teaching manners and social skills

~Making EVERYTHING better when you can (from bo-bo's to break-ups)

~Keeping your family healthy and safe

~Giving your children wings so they can fly out of the nest some day

~Respecting their independence and nurturing their talents

~Teaching them how to work around and overcome their weaknesses

~Unconditional love and frequent discipline

~Being a parent first and friend last

~Relaxing and enjoying life as much as they do

~Not forcing them to grow up too fast and allowing them to savor their precious childhood

The comedian Chris Rock once summed it up beautifully. "If the baby can't read, that's the mama's fault. If the baby can't read because there's no lights in the house, that's the daddy's fault." It sounds sexist, but it made me laugh!

Motherhood is wonderful to me. I love bragging about my wonderful children and all of their accomplishments. I also don't mind that people say they can't believe that I have had 3 children, because with clothes on I don't look like it. :)(They have no idea what it looks like underneath) :) It is the most wonderful feeling in the world to come home to your 3 children and see what they have accomplished in the day, even if it is cutting their brothers hair. It is these memories that I will have forever. I am so happy that I was able to have the entire experience of being a mother from the time they were in the womb until birth and now every day is something new.

Here is a poem I wrote during a reflective moment when my triplets were about 1 yr old:

Essence of Motherhood  (working title)
It’s like water
It’s about water
It always comes back to water…
Salty water
Flowing from my eyes as
My babies were taken in childbirth
Sweet water
Wrung from my breasts
To grow tiny premature bodies

Stinky water seeping from diapers
Sticky water drooling on bibs
Water on my face from cute baby kisses
Water splashing gleefully from bathtubs
Water churning through laundry, bottles, dishes…
Water
Dripping, leaking, tumbling
Spilling, cascading, overflowing…
Nourishing
Cleansing
Draining
Rejuvenating…
All the while
Precious babyhood
Slipping through my life
Like water.

Motherhood is loving, wanting, yearning, cheering.

Motherhood is so special to me. I never knew I could love another person with so much heart and passion. Finding out I was pregnant was so exciting. Finding out I was having a girl was even more exciting. Finding out the same day that she was a girl, that she would be born with Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus and my never walk or care for herself was heart breaking. Watching her grow and do all these things they said she would never do is the most amazing feeling in the world. She is the strongest person I know, even if she is too little to know it yet. I get so much joy from helping her. I wouldn't trade my role of her mother for anything in the world.

lots of coffee, never having a perfectly clean house again, unbelievable amounts of love, levels of patients you never knew you had, walking around with mystery food stuck to the back of your pants, a very honest look at yourself and your relationships, excitement for every bug, every stick, every leaf, every semi truck, etc. lots of money spent at target, an instant understanding with other women with screaming children in public places, never eating in an adult restaurant again, being more protective than you have ever been of anything before in your life, exhaustion, bending your own rules, maturing very quickly, snuggles on the couch, never having a tissue when you need one, and feeling that your heart will burst with love and adoration.

My son has taught me so much in just 6 months. He has taught me to be patient. Just when I think I can't take it any more, he will change and there will be a new obstacle to tackle. He has taught me to be flexible. When I have a list of things to do, I have to consider naps, feeding, changing and play time. Even when I think I have things well planned out, they change quickly with an infant. He has taught me to appreciate everyday. He changes so quickly that if I keep looking into the future, I will miss the milestones of today. Finally he has taught me the true meaning of motherly love. I never realized how much a mother could love her child. I remember sitting down a couple months ago with my own mom and asking her if she really loved me as much as I love my son....and with a tear in her eye she said I did and still do. I am grateful that my son has taught me so much. I truly have a deeper appreciation for my own mom and for life.

Motherhood means constantly asking yourself if you are doing the "right thing".
Motherhood means being angry when your child spills juice all over your new dress and then having your heart melt when they look at you with big eyes and say "sorry" while hugging your leg.
Motherhood means blessing the people who invented drive-thru windows.
Motherhood means finally understanding what your mother meant by "You'll understand when you have your own kids someday".
Motherhood means being the luckiest lady in the world for being the mom of the most perfect child ever.

Motherhood is being the last to sit down for a meal ... only to pop right up again for more milk, a clean spoon, paper towels.

Motherhood is putting 150 miles on the family car in a weekend & never leaving the city limits.

Motherhood is a suppression of the gag reflex.

Motherhood is going to a fancy dinner wearing a macaroni necklace, and telling anyone who asks that - because your child made it - its the most precious piece you own.

Motherhood is spa facials & mudbaths replaced with applesauce splatters & grubby handprints ... and though we long still for the firs, we aren't willing to give up the second for it.

Motherhood to me is such a blessing. I have a handsome 4 year old boy and a beautiful 1 year old girl and they are constantly bringing smiles to my face everyday. My son loves to drum, he has been drumming since 2. It is so cute to watch him in church with his drumsticks going a hundred miles an hour in the pews to the rhythm of the church drummer, and he really stays with the beat, he as been since he was 2.
My daughter has such a beautiful smile that can just melt your heart. She is just learning to sit up and is very determined to accomplish this task. She was born with Down Syndrome, so her muscle tone will cause her to be delayed in her motor skills, so to watch her get past each milestone is so rewarding.
Being there for my babies whenever they need me, nursing them back to health when they are sick, holding them when they need their mommy. Playing with them and teaching them so many different things so they can have a jump start when they start their homeschooling. Always making sure their bellies are full, diapers are clean, and that they know that they are loved.
Encouraging them when they are trying a new venture and praising them when they proudly achieve their goals. Always letting them know, no matter what mommy will be there for them for whatever they need. That is what motherhood is to me.

What does motherhood mean to me:
Well this will be only my second mother's day and I already have two chilren - 11 months apart so it means:
1. No more alone toilet time ever;
2. No more quick errands - everything needs at least an hour or more added on;
3. No more sleeping through the night or sleeping in for that matter;
4. No more bekini's;
5. No more really nice cloths because a piece always has something on it by the time I get to work - no fail;
What I have gained even with all the change:
1.  The ability to sing every clapping song ever invented;
2. The ability to laugh at the simplest doorkiest things that non-parents just wouldn't understand;
3. The ability to talk at least once a day about poop;
4. The ability to change a diaper, talk on the phone and hold a bottle at nearly the same time;
5. The ability to catch almost all flying objects and especially pieces of food and sippy cups
But I wouldn't trade any of it for the world!

May 10,  2008 at 11:05 AM : There's...

There's Male. There's Female. There's Mother. Mother is a different mammal altogether. Men and women have their own definitions (and of course their own reproductive organs - innies and outies).
Once you've "turned into" a Mother, you are no longer part of this "pair" (at least 90% of the time).
When I was pregnant, other mothers told me "your life will never be the same". Oh - I know what you're thinking - "It made my life complete!" "It was the most joyous thing that ever happened to me!"... Whatever. That's not what I'm talking about. I will admit, I will NEVER volunteer to return my Mother card and it did indeed ENHANCE my existence... but read below and you will understand.
"Your life will never be the same" means (and now I understand as I've had 9 years to get used to the idea):
I am now a Mother. That's first. End of story. I am a woman some days. I am a daughter at times. I am a friend now and then. But first, and forever, I am a Mother.
These are the new things that get added to our "definition" after we are no longer a Female - and turn into a Mother.
1) When you get up in the morning, your first thought is about your child (good or bad - moms you know you do it!) "Is the baby/kid/monster up yet?" or "What are you doing?!" - yelled from your bed to the living room/downstairs/outside in response to whatever noise woke you up.... or "Is he/she home and safe yet?!"
2) During the day, between breakfast, naps, work, driving, errands, phone calls, laundry, comet, vomit, school, meetings, garden, dust bunnies and dinner your thoughts are "If I ever get 2 minutes to myself..."
3) During dinner (which is at most times an inconvenience because you are actually SITTING and not getting something accomplished (because we have long forgotten that FOOD is a necessity - not a hindrance!) your thoughts are "Okay, if I get done really fast I can get a load of laundry in before he/she/them get up from the table and then while they're showering/doing homework/playing softball/watching TV I can breath for a couple minutes OR get ONE MORE THING accomplished before I collapse at ______ 10:00, 11:00, 12:00, 1:00.....!"
4) During the time just before you fall asleep (no matter what time it is), your last thoughts are of your child regardless of their age. "I hope I was right in making that decision?" "I shouldn't have given in that easily!" "I shouldn't have spanked her/him" "I knew I should have said NO to that party!" "Is he/she going to come home soon?" "Maybe I should call just one more time?" "Did I get anything done today?" "Did I spend any quality time with my kid today?" "Does he/she know how much I love them?" ..... and the list goes on and on...
So, for any Males or Females out there that may be reading this... you've just had a small peek into the zoo that is for Mothers only... petting allowed!
