I never got the whole "Baby Signs" fad (though it was pretty funny in Meet the Fockers movie. It seems pretty degrading to me to people who are deaf and use ASL as a real language. I mean, you don't see "BABY SPANISH!" or "BABY FRENCH!" It could just be me, but your baby ASKING you for milk is a little creepy.

I mean shouldn't your baby just enjoy being a baby? Leaning another language and doing homework can come later. I personally never had a problem "communicating" with my baby and would rather it learn by experience rather than to parrot certain signals.

Thank you for your input. I understand how you feel. I have raised many babies over the years. Babies love being babies... they also love to communicate with their parents. That's what crying is... communcation. Teaching a baby how to use "Baby Signs" allows him to tell his parent what he wants without the temper tantrums. Believe me, I've seen a lot of temper tantrums.

Sep 5, 2008 at 08:09 PM : Hi Anonymous,
A baby...

Hi Anonymous,
A baby gets lazy when he gets a bottle. Have someone else give the bottle, if possible. This way he will get the idea that mom has breasts and doesn't give the bottle. If he fights at the breast, hand him to daddy until you calm yourself. Baby will know when you get upset, so he will get upset.
First thing I need to know... are you back to work? Sometimes moms will get stressed out which can reduce your milk supply. Then, baby gets hungrier and mom may resort to a bottle because she thinks her milk is gone. Next, babies have their last big growth spurt at age 6 months. Your baby may be telling you to make more milk. (Remember the growth spurts when your son was younger?) At this time, babies are eating more solid foods. If you breastfeed your son after giving him solids, he won't be as hungry so he won't take as much breastmilk from you.
If you have gone back to work, try to relax when you to pump. Going back to work after having a baby can be very stressful which may cause you to tense up. Then your milk won't let down. If the milk doesn't come out, your body thinks you don't need to make milk so your supply goes down.
If you give hime solids before breasfeeding, reverse what you do at these feeding times. Breastfeed him first when he is the hungriest. This way he will stimulate your breasts more and you will make more milk.
I know that I just gave you alot of information at once. I hope some of these ideas work.
As far as my Baby Signs classes are concerned, I am teaching the Parent Workshop and the Sign, Say, and Play classes at the Old Fair Oaks Library in old town Fair Oaks. You can see all the information and class schedule on my website at www.babysignsinstitute.com/bybabytender. Maybe I will meet you someday.
Take care of yourself and God Bless You
