things i never thought i'd say
being the parent of an active toddler i realized that it comes with  a whole new world of things i never thought i would have to say. 

  • the toilet plunger is NOT a hat
  • isn't going poo in the toilet so much fun!
  • we eat people food, only the dogs eat dog food
  • maternity clothes are so comfortable!
and so on.  when i was young and fully passionate about life, i always imagined my child to be perfectly behaved all the time, that she would just one day decide on her own that she was fully potty trained and i would NEVER have to trick her into eating vegetables.  and then came baby.  but i think the phrase that i use the most and am the most suprised by is "i don't know".    i used to know everything.  i knew exactly who i was and how to live my life without any regrets.  no.  doesn't work that way.  the natural ebb and flow of life has lead me to the place where i think the smartest thing i can say is "i don't know"

I agree: "I don't know" is a good place to start. Or, I tell my students something completely wrong and outrageous, laugh at the expression on their faces, and then tell them I'm lying. Knowing everything is completely overrated.

It's amazing how we change after having a baby! I never could relate with other moms until now.

Do you have any pictures with your toddler in the "plunger" hat?

Those are GREAT!!!
Here's a few of mine...

"Don't bite people on the butt!" (A lovely habit my son had w/ family members when little)
"Only put your own feet in your mouth (again, "toe snake" when little)
"Not tonight, I have a headache" (self explanitory)
"Never look up porn on the computer! It can get a virus!" (ahhh, to parent a teen!)

I relate to these silly comments as I do them all the time myself.  The thing that I started doing, that still makes me laugh is that I sing a potty song when my 2.5 year old goes potty....

"sydney went pee-pees on the potty, oh yes, oh yes, oh yes!"

or the other version...

sydney went poo-poos on the potty, oh yes, oh yes, oh yes!"

I never thought I would be so into my child's bodily functions!!  I guess that is what mommies do!
