Vacations are just not what they used to be
We recently returned from our annual Lake Tahoe trip.  It seems that every year (and the more kids we add into the mix) the trip gets more and more exhausting.  I guess the days of staying up all night, drinking beer at the casinos (and loosing all of our money at the same time) are over.  Gone are the days of sleeping in until 10:00am and lounging the rest of the day at Pope Beach.

No...now we endure the game of endless refereeing of the kids (our three, plus my three-year-old and 23 month old nephews and another family friend who is 5 1/2 years old) while we are on this vacation.  Now, I'm not trying to complain here, I'm just saying that it would be a little nice if these children would think to themselves, "Geez, mom and dad really deserve a break.  Maybe we should just sit down nicely on the floor and entertain ourselves for awhile."  Would that be too much to ask?

Well, at least there were only three (or maybe four?) episodes of the kids tumbling down the stairs at the cabin, three attempts at biting with another four more attempts being successful, about 19 hits to either the faces, heads, arms or chest and two body slams completed by my son, Caiden (he thinks he's a sumo wrestler).

Anyway, I have faith that next year's trip will be a little more relaxing since the boys will be older.  There IS a light at the end of the tunnel.  These Tahoe trips always remind me to look at the bright side of life!  At least I know that I am giving my children wonderful memories that they will enjoy for the rest of their lives.

Ok so whenever I decide I want to complain about my daughter taking up every waking moment of my day, I'll think of you and shut up.  Three children is a lot to handle but like you said, you're giving them amazing memories that will last a lifetime.

As I type this, my husband is on a plane flying back from Maui! His brother got married there and we decided it would have been too expensive and just  "too much" to take our four year old son and one year old daughter. We stayed home. Oh well. Tahoe seems more realistic....but still a lot of work.

The key is to lower expectations! ;-) I have much more tolerance for traveling and vacation with our kids that my hubby. Good luck next year!
