Shopping... by myself?

Shopping... by myself?
My treat to myself this weekend was a solo trip to the mall for a couple of hours. I know this may sound mundane, but in the life of a full time + working Mom, this is indeed a rare occasion. These days my shopping either consists of a fast paced walk through the mall pushing my very wiggly and fussing toddler in her stroller, trying to entertain her as I rush to take care of business or an endless round of online purchases which never quite fit or look as cute as they do online at 5 am (these ultimately end in returns). So yesterday, I actually walked in the mall by myself. Only carrying a small purse and shopped only for me. I pulled out a modest amount of cash, as we are all struggling with the increased cost of everything from groceries to gas, and set out to shop. In my pre-mommy days, this was my hobby and sport. I know very consumer driven, but who doesn't get a smile from a cute new outfit? Until I was there, I didn't realize how long it had been since I did this and you know, it really made me feel good! I made a few spring purchases and started to find my way home. Feeling I slight twinge of guilt as I passed the "Build-a-Bear Workshop", I did begin to notice all of the Mommy's there with their kids. I realized how much we take for granted how little time alone we have and how challenging it is to do day to day errands with little one's in tow. After my splurge, I returned to my energetic two year old in time to make her lunch and I felt recharged and ready to put my focus on her again. Amazing what a little break will do!
