September boys - should you hold them back and repeat Kindergarten? Not necessarily.

I posted earlier this year about this dilema and I made the decision not to hold him back.

My son just turned 6 and is in first grade at a really nice public school in Sacramento.

Many people advised me to hold my son back and repeat Kindergarten based solely on age and the fact that this is a magnet school, but I knew that he was ready. He can focus and hold his own socially in conversations with a few kids or more than a few.

Overall I think we made the right decision and decided on the right school.  I hope I still feel the same way closer to the end of the year.

Hello,

Yes...you are his mother and know your son best.  Kudos for you to do what you think is right even after getting the advice from others.  It is always nice to hear stories and experiences from other parents to help us with our choices.  Sounds like things are working out for you and your son. I wish you all the best.

Mom knows best! I agree with dancersmom for sure. I'm glad to hear the school year is off to a great start for you all.
