I am back!
OK being away was nice. It was hard work, though. Now the real work begins. My hubby was a single parent for the week, the kids got feed, homework done, off to school ,off to soccer practice, off to a game and even a birthday party! Wow what a lot of work. Hubby did not take any time off he still did his 'day job" with little modification He is a geologist and could not do much field work. So now I am home I see that the kitchen got tidied and laundry done.. yeah.. now i get to do all the other cleaning that guys must not think about... cleaning the floors, cleaning the bath rooms, and the PLAY room is a tip.
So now I am thinking what I can get the boys to do.. they like cleaning the floors so I think that we will tackle that first. :) I also think that it is time to think seriously about giving them an allowance. A model for allowance that was talked about this week was giving the child 3 allowances. The first allowance is money they can use right away, you make the house rules about what can be purchased, but this is theirs to use. The second is for savings, not college savings, they can access this account once to twice a year to buy something they really want. The third is for charity, and they get to pick the charity, it can be church, school. the nature center, etc. It is important that they pick the institution. Giving them 3 allowances, instead of one big allowance teaches them financial management at a level they can understand, as they get older you can teach them percentages and other math skills that they will use later in life, like simple and compound interest. I know that philantropy and savings are skills that we want to teach the boys right away with financial management! 1 comments from 1 users

the allowance idea is such a good one. my boys are still too young for an allowance, but i think your idea is a great one for teaching responsibility and charity. keep us posted as to how it works out!
