Lots of good coupons in the Wednesday grocery ads. Moms should take note of the Raley's/BelAir page that includes a buy 2 get one free on Huggies Diapers. Also mini muffins 2/$5 and a fried chicken meal for $5.99. And dare I say Pop*Tarts for 99-cents a pack. Did you try the Friday special at Safeway last week? It was a huge sub sandwich for $5. This week Safeway has a fried chicken meal, too. This one is $5 and only available on Friday. Safeway also has bakery cookies for $2.99 and yellow peaches for $1 a pound. For more bargains, check out Shop Cheap on Sacbee.com/blogs. Did you see all the inserts in Sunday's paper? Believe it or not, it's back to school time. This is a biggie for me because it's the first time in 18 years that both my boys aren't heading back to school. No matter if they are 5 or 15, back to school has been part of our lives since 1990. In April, our oldest graduated from college, leaving younger brother as the only one heading back to class. But whether it's college or preschool, Moms will be searching for bargains on everything from pencils to portfolios between now and September. Better get it now while the selection is good and there's still plenty of time. Here are a few things that caught my eye on Sunday: Target is always a great place to shop for school stuff, because you can get clothes and markers all in the same place. Target has teen-themed notebooks 2/$3 and Crayola colored pencils or the standard No. 2 pencils for $2.They also have 50-count markers for $5; Camp Rock and Incredible Hulk lunch kits for $9 and Camo backpacks for $11. If your student wears a uniform to school, they have both boys and girls styles on sale for $8.99 and $9.99. Walgreens has an entire pull-out section on Back-to-School supplies and the sale is way beyond BOGO. It's buy one get two free. Everything from filler paper to scissors to markers and pencils to vinyl binders. Inside of the pull-out, you will find the BOGOs. It's Wednesday again and that means grocery store sales arrive at the doorstep. I'm going to help you sort out the good from the "don't need it." There's lots of fruit and veggies that even kids will like. Blueberries at Safeway for $3.59; and baby carrots in the bag for $1 at Raley's/BelAir and Safeway. If you want an easy Friday night meal, head over to Safeway where they have a Friday $5 special. This week it's 1-foot French loaf made into an "All-American" sub with turkey, ham, roast beef, cheeses, lettuce and tomato. Add some of their potato salad and you have a cool, easy meal. Also at the Safeway stores on Howe Avenue or Sierra College Boulevard, there are coupon deals for tuna. Solid, white StarKist for 4 cans/$2. Premium bread is just 99-cents a loaf. If you shop SaveMart, Bing cherries are $2.99lb; Mozzarella string cheese is $5.99 for 24 count packages; Sunnyside Farms lemonade drinks are $1 each for 640z. cartons and large eggs are 2/$6 for 18-count AA. Raley's has juicy cantaloupe for 37-cents a pound and salad macaroni for $1 a bag. If you have other good shopping tips, please share. Check out the Sunday inserts for the ToysRus ad. Crayola has a great deal on colorful markers. Buy one pack, get TWO free. There's also Preschool books and flashcards buy one, get one free - or BOGO for those in the know. Longs has lots of good stuff, including Aquafina bottled water at $3.99 a case; Barilla pasta for $1 a box and eggs at $1.79 a dozen. Ajax dish soap is 99-cents for 16 ounces and Xtra liquid detergent is 2/$5. Over at Target, the prices are good on kids socks and undies - from $3 to $5 a pack. They also are starting to advertise back-to-school bargains. Kids folders are 50-cents and 70-sheet notebooks are 2/$3. Crayola colored pencils are 88-cents for 12. That's it for today.
