Daylight Savings Time blues

Munchkin doesn’t understand Daylight Savings Time. And quite frankly, neither do I.

Last fall, when the clocks went back, I had a newborn that was getting up with the chickens at the dream-piercing time of 5 a.m.

This time around, with the clocks moving forward, I have a baby who can’t get to sleep. Last night, it wasn’t until almost 9 p.m. before he actually headed to Dreamland. This morning, when I dragged myself out of bed and woke him at 6:45 a.m., he looked at me like I was a little crazy. Couldn’t I see it was still dark outside? Shouldn’t he still be fast asleep? What did I think he was anyway? A farmer?

And so I don’t understand Daylight Savings Time. Not one bit.

Thankfully, what I do understand is coffee. Lots of it.

I too hit the starbucks both yesterday and today.... and probably will tomorrow too.   Love the evening strolls hate the bedtime change -- my son went to bed last night at 7 and woke up raren to go at 4 -- needless to say it's 2:30 and I think I just might pass out at my desk!

I'm right there with you, it was about a 3-cup coffee day just to get me to work in one piece.   My baby boy was up at all hours and had me up at 5:30am this morning.   I do love the long daylight hours though!   Hang-in there!

You should have seen my poor little 15 year-olds come into first period late. They were so confused by the time change. Tomorrow they have the California high school exit exam; I hope they get used to the new time by tomorrow. Yikes!

That's crazy hmoeckli! Why would they have that test the DAY after daylight savings? I never understand why STAR testing is in the spring anyway. When kids are either distracted by the nice weather or doped up on allergy medication. Ugh.

I hear your munchkinmom. It never gets any better either I'm sorry to say. I think the whole thing is horrible and pointless.

Amazingly, all of my first period students did show up on time and prepared for the CAHSEE, and I think they did well. I was panicking a bit on Monday though.

And I hear you, Creatress, on the STAR testing issues. What annoys me about the CAHSEE is that they give them the hardest multiple choice questions in the afternoon and then administrations wonder why certain areas always have low scores. Well, duh, who does well in the afternoon?!? I know I don't.

Regarding the time change, it's stinky, but I love being able to run later in the evening.
