Broken Glass
It seems like this week, no matter where I go to run or ride, I've had to deal with broken glass. Thursday while riding my bike with the kids, we encountered broken glass in the bike lane and on the sidewalks in my neighborhood. Friday morning while running through my neighborhood, there was even more broken glass than the day before. This morning while riding to the Farmers' Market, there was so much broken glass on the Watt Avenue bridge, we had to turn around and go around and ride across the other side.
So far we've been lucky (knock on wood) and haven't had any flats. I always carry spare tubes, patch kit, tire irons, and a pump. I go out of my way to avoid getting a flat tire because having to repair a flat on my bike, their bike trailer, or running stroller would not be very much fun, especially with two kids that just like to go, go, go. I think people who choose to throw glass bottles into the streets are so inconsiderate . The world is not their trash can. They probably don't even realize that they are littering. They definitely aren't being environmentally conscious, and they are inconveniencing the rest of us in a big way. 3 comments from 3 users

And really how hard is it to throw away your trash? Not hard at all. Littter drives me crazy because it's such an easy problem to prevent. My 2 year old daughter always says, "Ew Yuck!" when she sees bottles on the ground. Well, one time she saw a woman just drop her cup on the ground at Elk Grove Park and walk away. Em points and shouts, "Ew Yuck!" The woman was pretty ashamed and picked up her trash, but it wasn't exactly the way I'd like things to work out. I'm not a confrontational person, so I'm a little wary now when I walk to the park with Em. :) posted by

They should start running the Indian crying commercials again from the 70's!!! I remember back when I was a kid in the 70's, how over-flowing trash cans and trash on the side of streets and freeways was so common. Then, they ran the indian campaign. It worked. Do you remember that? I live next to a junior high and a high school. Its a mess sometimes. My husband gets really upset.
