Time Flies
Time flies whether you're having fun or not. So, make it fun! We started the month of July packing to leave for our trip to New York. After being home a week, which gave us just enough time to catch up on laundry, Steve and I left for Oregon where we spent 4 days volunteering as mountain bike guides. Lucas and Brodie spend the 4 days being spoiled and pampered with Grandma and Grandpa. Once we were all back home together, the rest of the month was packed full of fun....ArtBeast, Fairytale Town, Sac Zoo, Sac Railroad Museum, several visits to parks with spray grounds, swimming at Grandma and Grandpa's house, playing with their friends, morning runs with Mommy, riding their big wheels, playing the sprinkler, and one of Lucas and Brodie's favorite days was spent painting and swimming at one of their friend's house. Their paintings are hanging in the kitchen, so they can be admired daily. The star, moon, and hand prints on their paintings are recognizable, but the rest is abstract...only to be interpreted by Lucas and Brodie themselves. If you ask them what they see, they'll tell you. After all, they are the artists.
August is only a day away, and the calendar looks just as busy. In two weeks, Lucas and Brodie will be celebrating their two year birthdays. 3 comments from 3 users

ArtBeast is a great place for kids. Most of the time, we try to do free things. Having two kids, plus some places charge for adults too, adds up. A few free things we've done lately: Feeding ducks at McKinley Park. We visit lots of different playgrounds, especially those with spray grounds during the summer. Effie Yeaw nature center at Ancil Hoffman Park. William B. Pond recreation area along the American River Bike Trail. Arden way runs into William B. Pond. Its fun to walk down to the river. Bring bread to feed the ducks. Plus Lucas and Brodie have fun playing with sticks, and throwing rocks into the water. We meet up with lots of other parents and their kids for play dates during the week. Sometimes the kids just play, other times we plan art or water activities for them. In regards to exercise, I allow at least 1-2 days a week as rest days. Life is busy, so if I know I have 1-2 days where I don't have to exercise, then I don't have to feel guilty about missing a couple days. Or sometimes I just need the rest. Especially when I don't get much sleep at night. Each week I plan what I'm going to do each day and I try to get outside exercising no later than 8-8:30AM to run or bike ride. When I wake up in the morning, I get dressed in my exercise clothes. Then I get Lucas and Brodie dressed, fed, and get the running stroller or bike trailer ready so we can head out the door. I think the key to getting out to exercise is setting goals that fit "you." For example, if someone is a morning person, then they should exercise in the morning. If they already walk once a week, then they could try adding one more day. If this works, then a couple weeks later add another day. Any amount of exercise is better than none at all. Make exercise fun. Set realistic goals. Try to walking or running at different parks, explore your neighborhood for new sights and scenery. Sign up for a race to run or walk. Having a exercise goal to work toward also helps with motivation. Find a friend to exercise with. Luckily Lucas and Brodie both enjoy running and riding with me. There are a few days every so often when they aren't in the mood, but I bring snacks, toys, and books along to keep them busy. There have been times when I sing or read books to them as we are running.... Good Luck! I hope this helps! Have fun at ArtBeast! posted by
