My first Henna Event : Arts in River Park Festival
Well I did a one day arts and crafts fair here in Sacramento. I was nervous, excited, my paste was mixed and ready to go, barely slept the night before. When I made the arrangements to be at this fair, the event coordinator told me that I would be the only henna artist there. I had registered two months prior. I had been in contact with her just a few days before the event as well. I also got stopped by someone when I was in WalMart, who complimented me on my henna, and so I gave him my card, and he gave it to his wife, and she wants henna for when they do their Muslim wedding (They already did a civil one) this summer. Yippeeee!!!! Here's my website: www.crescentmoonhenna.com

YAHOO!!! I'm so sad that the coordinator treated you so poorly. That's just horrid! There are people like that out there. You handled her like a pro. GOOD FOR YOU! It sounds like the event went wonderful. Your "glitter poofs" are a BRILLIANT idea! I always think drying hennah looks a little...gloopy, so this is a great marketing angle. Next time when doing a smaller festival, you may want to have your own contract that they sign stating you are the only hennah artist for the day. Just a thought. Although, I think in the end it helped you for people to see the quality of your work and prices. I agree with not listening to others and charging what you're comfortable with. Being "reasonable" is a big draw, especially when you're first starting out. Also, great job on keeping yourself hennah'd up and keeping business cards on you for compliments. You're doing so amazing. Sorry I couldn't make it to the show. I'm sensing a great future for you! You may want to line up some Apple Hill jobs for the Fall (if you're willing to make the drive.) They've become a huge deal and you may not have to pay much if you team up with a farm there. Good luck! posted by

Thanks for the Apple Hill Idea! I'm going to do the Rancho Cordova Fourth of July Festival, and quite possibly the Chicken festival in Fair Oaks in September. This is a welcome opportunity for me, as my hours are being cut at my job starting July 1. I will be able to keep my benefits, but am going to half time. Yikes. So I'm hoping that this will help supplement that at least a bit. If you ever want to have a henna party, let me know! posted by
