My No Sugar/Low Sugar Diet

First of all I would like to thank the fellow moms on here for making me feel so welcome, everyone is really nice and has a lot of good advice. Since some people wonder "how does she do the no sugar/low sugar diet?" let me tell you it can be difficult at times, but its working to my advantage. Here is the basic meal plan given to me by the nutritionist:

1) At breakfast, avoid mixing fruit and milk together, because it raises your blood sugar levels. I guess eating in the early morning really counts. You can use splenda!

2) Drinking at least 64 oz of fluids-minimum. This can be hard especially when you have to "go" all the time! She told me to dreak water, milk, and crystal light but I cheat and have diet soda sometimes. Something has to give.

3) Every three to four hrs eat. 3 meals, 3 snacks and walk for 10-20 mins after each meal (okay I walk but not always after every meal my bad).

4) Allow yourself 2-3 carbs per meal, 2 per snack. Each of these counts as one serving, as listed below.

1 slice whole grain bread

corn/flour tortillas

rice (1/2 cup)

oatmeal (1/2 cup non instant)

beans, corn, peas, potatoes (1/2 cup ea)

6 saltines

1 small apple

1/2 banana

12 cherries

15 grapes

1 1/2 cup watermelon

1 medium peach

2 small plums

You can eat as many veggies as possible. Protein-3 oz meat, cottage cheese, etc counts as a serving. Avoid deep friend, creamy, or sweet sauces.

Aside from everything listed above here is what I do. If we are eating out, I get as many veggies as possible. Places like taco bell have menus where you can see the sugar count, I don't get an item that has over 3 grams of sugar. Other alternatives include jello pudding, they make sugar free/fat free, along with sugar free popsicles (gotta have chocolate!)

Knock on wood so far I'm about 25 lbs lighter (so far) than the last time I was pregnant, I ate everything then though. Wish me luck, and good  luck to those who want to try this!

There are as many different ways to eat as there are people on the planet. I'm glad you found something that is working well for you.

I struggle between the lower sugar/calorie of Splenda and the artifical aspect of it (I usually prefer honey, or organic cain sugar). It's all a balance, isn't it!

I need a balance!  I can't eat the way I used to.  And I don't want to eat the way I do now!

Congratulations on your balance of nutrition, that's great!
