Make It A Great Day!
Has anyone else noticed the flood of "take control" media ideas, books, movies and classes based on the idea that we can create our own destiny? I have, and I have been reading and attending classes that have encouraged me to create the life I want for myself. This new direction did not start with a New Year's Resolution or other traditional promise to do more in life. It actually was born out of a funeral for one of the Brokers I work with in my career. I attended his funeral, and it was standing room only! The church was packed full of friends, family and colleagues of this man we had truly created a legacy of service, friendship and community activism. I started thinking, "Who would come to my funeral?" "How will the world remember me and my contributions to this Earth?" I went home and dusted off my mom's old copy of Martha Beck's book, "Finding Your Own North Star." I have already read "The Secret" and have been paying close attention to Oprah's new on-line class based on the new book of the month (have to get the name!). I have joined a number of community organizations and volunteered to help clean up my community. The truth is, I lose all track of time when I start thinking about how I can improve the world that my daughter lives in, how I can teach her to have an attitude of service over self and how I can gain a feeling of contentment in the process! Very exciting, and I would love to write more, but I am running off to the free Border's class sponsored by sacmomsclub entitled, "How to Manifest your Soulmate." My husband and I have a running (half) joke in our house. He'll make the money, I'll make the world a better place, cause you sure can't do both! Hahaha.
I agree with you to a point. I think you have a lot of control over your destiny, but not 100%. I also think that creating your own path in life, or your own destiny take a ton of time and work and you don't get much money in the end. Most people aren't in the position to put in that kind of investment with that little of a return. If you are so fortunate to be in that place, that's GREAT! You go get em'! Grab that destiny!
