I'm a Donny Girl!

I sat down today after my morning run with a cup of coffee and a couple extra minutes before my shower. I turned on the t.v. to VH1 to watch a couple videos, and was incredibly shocked to discover The New Kids on The Block on my stinking television!

Oh, it brought back memories, oh-e-o, it did! Instantly, I was in fifth grade again playfully arguing with my BFF Amanda about who was cuter. She was definitely a Jordan girl, but I wanted to be different. I wanted the bad bad boy, the one who swore...Donny. Oh, he was dreamy. (Still is by the way...)

Now my family didn't have much extra money, so I didn't have any of the tapes or posters or dolls. But I lived vicariously through Amanda. Eventually, TNKOTB fell out of favor during the sixth grade, so we secretly enjoyed them together at sleep overs, never letting classmates know our true feelings.

Seventh grade tragedy struck. We started middle school and Amanda and I were separated. She moved to Reno and I moved on to alternative music. I found actual bad boys, who did more than swear, and we listened to Nirvana, Peal Jam, and Alice in Chains and felt oh so alienated. New Kids on the Block was a thing of the past.

Until today.

Now, their new song is BAD. And they actually brought back the Hangin' Tough dance at the end of video. Not good. It's one thing to do that dance in your early 20's when you don't know any better. It's an entirely different thing 15 years later. You just look like a spaz. And the years have not been kind to all of the "kids", Danny and Jon especially. But Donny still has my vote. He is fine! (To quote my 12-year-old self.)

So anty up. What kinda girl are you? Jordan (typical), Joey (if ya like 'em squeaky), Donny (rebel), or Jon or Danny (yikes.) I know I'm not the only one, so spill the beans!

yup.  i admit when i saw that i could watch their new video i wasted no time.  and boy was it a waste of time!  now i was not expecting it to be great, to be a major come back but exactly how horrible it was, was a disappointment.  skank fest on the beach? makeout sessions with said skank's?  ugh

so instead i am left with dreams of me and joey on the beach.  and in all of my fantasies i am the skank that he is making out with on the beach.

As long as you don't want my Donny, we are fine. :)

And those girls are waaaaaaay too young!

You are my friend. And, you are 6 years younger than me, so I realize that when you were in 5th grade I was sitting in my room cranking Dead Kennedies, Jane's Addition, and the Cure...but...

WHAT??

I think I have to stage an intervention.  ;-)

Just kidding...when I was in 5th grade I was in love with Nick Rhodes from Duran Duran.

I have never claimed to be cool or have any sense of style. :)

hahahahaa.....yeah, I was a Madonna and Bon Jovi girl...totally missed the NKOTB thing..thank goodness!

Madonna, Bon Jovi, Duran Duran, Depeche Mode, U2, INXS...and heck, those people have been making albums all these years and still kick ****. :)

But, I DO remember going over to my BFF Anna's house and she was a HUGE Rick Springsteen fan, and listening to "Bop til you Drop" on her '45 over and over and over and over..........

For the record, I fell in love with David Bowie at age 7 when I watched Labyrinth.

And I know there are closeted NKOTB fans out there. Fess up!

yes yes, the david bowie comment is spot on, we were def from the same generation hillary, i love bein an 80's baby. i was in 3rd grade and obsessed for like 2 or three years with NKOB.  oh how i coveted all the crap, i mean merchandise, tapes and pictures taped to my wall. Ha ha i had little pins with their faces on them proudly pegged to my jean jacket.

Its funny how things usally come full circle, like my current default picture. Three kids at the pool, lookin cute with their CAREBEAR floatie rings. looks like a picture i could've taken today of my gilrs. except it was taken in 1985! with me, my brother and our friend. yes those bears have been around so long they were huge, nonexistent, then huge again. just like the cabbage patch dolls, transformers...etc etc.

So i will admit, i was a typical Jordan girl. He was the hottest guy i had ever seen, i even practiced my signature with Knight for my last name! lol i was very excited a couple years ago when he was on the surreal life on vh1. thrilled would not be an exgaggeration.  and boy, talk about dissapointment!. the dream boat sank, revealing a washed up teen hearthrob sadly trying reclaim the glory days. thats not hot. or interesting. so sadly, i have been in no rush to check them out this second go-round.

I feel so much better, Mama26! Thank you for claiming your enjoyment of the boys from b-town.

Yeah, everything is back. It's so funny. My daughter has a care bear, cabbage patch doll, and a My Little Pony. It's like toy makers don't want to come up with anything new. :)

My youngest had a glo worm too, and is obsessed with strawbery shortcake.  Talk about deja-vu!

NKOTB was my favorite boy group back in the 90s. I seceretly loved Donny, but beause everyone thought he was ugly  I changed it to Joey, then Jon, then back to Donny were my heart melted. I remember my grandma surprised me with tickets to see them at Arco front row. I almost fainted. I went home with laryngitis and mostly in a fantasy land. Best believe when I returned to school, I was the coolest 6th grader ever. Even at 20 y/o when they came out with the greast hit I grabbed it so quick, tore open the wrapper and turned up the music. Now that I'm 28, I just look back on it and smile and know think, "Dang they are old!!!"
