hmoeckli - > Teacher by day, Mommy by night -> I heart vacation
I heart vacation
It's ten o'clock on a Tuesday night and I'm watching a new episode of Law & Order. I'm not feeling guilty about staying up or dreading going to work. Cause I don't have to go tomorrow. I'm not trying to gloat (too much), but it's such a good feeling to be on vacation.

Don't get me wrong; I genuinely like my students and my job. Just a couple days before winter break, a particularly difficult student of mine met my daughter at our school's basketball game. This girl is ROUGH: fifteen, big 'ol cross tatoo on her arm, lives with her great-grandma cause neither her mother or her grandmother is suitable. My daughter walks straight up to her and within minutes, they are as thick as thieves. My student shared her chips with my daughter and they hung  out during the whole game. It's times like this that I know working in education is the right path for me.

That all said, it is sweet to have two weeks off for the holidays. I'm really looking forward to spending time with my husband and daughter. Today we sat at home and did nothing but laundry and unpacking. I stayed in my pajamas until it was time for me to go running. Not a bad way to spend a day.

Weather permitting, I run around my neighborhood. I live in Elk Grove, so there's a ton of safe trails and parks. It's very nice. Since it gets dark so early now, I run on the treadmill at my apartment complex. So, unfortunately, I know my time. I'm running about 12 minute miles now, but I'm doing some interval training to speed up. I'd like to do three miles in 30 minutes by march. Depending on the day, I run 30 min to an hour.

It's great that you are running so soon after having a baby. Congrats! I've never done it with a jogger stroller, but I imagine it's intense.

Yes, my running resume is growing. I've run everything from 5ks to two marathons, however, I've never been the one to beat. I'm more like the tortoise, but like you, I find it a great way to release some steam and stay fit.

I'm just getting back into it. I had my 2nd child in July and we initial went on long walks in the stroller, but now we're transitioning into the baby jogger. I'm up to 35 minutes, but plan to increase. (don't even want to know what my pace is. eek!) Do you run on trails or in your neighborhood? How far?

I was a pretty committed runner in high school and college. I really liked 5K's and 10K's. Never did anything more intense than that.

I've gotten back into running this past summer. I wanted to get back into shape, but I forgot how relaxing running can be. It's really my form of meditation/church/relaxation. I'm still pretty slow, but it's a good time.

Do you run?

Sounds like your daughter has the magic touch. Kids have a way of making people feel relaxed.

Are you a runner?
