With a Good Friend…

Anything is fun!
Case in point, I held the worst yard sale in the world this Sunday. The winds were blowing at 30+mph and I think we had four people all day. It took us three hours to figure out that we could open the garage door to have some shelter INSIDE the garage (vs. being blown away on my front patio.) We made very little money, but both had a really great time! Why? How? Because we were together… doing nothing other than chatting and visiting for 5hours. How often do us busy moms get to do that? For me the answer is, not often enough.

In retrospect… here’s a few yard sale tips for you that I didn’t think of till after my disastrous sale:

- Have your sale on a Saturday, not only on a Sunday (and expect to make any money.)

- Put up an ad on Craigs List. My friend suggested this and I didn’t do it because I didn’t want my address on it. Only later did it occur to me that I could have just put the street name and city. DUH!

- Check the weather. If it’s going to be really windy, save yourself the headache (my "like-new" Karaoke machine was blown right off the table and busted.) If there’s wind, cancel… ditto for rain.

- Check you local schedules. I didn’t realize the college was on Spring Break. Not that I get a lot of college students anyway, but it does decrease the chances of people being in-town.

Of course my last tip is if you do have a yard sale, invite at least once friend to share the pain with you. You just may end having a great time and not caring that no one wants your junk.

I don't do yard sales anymore. It is too hard to watch things I've been connected to get bargained down to 25 cents. I prefer donating to a worthy cause and making a nice clean break.

I'd also rather go down to the American River Parkway with my kids for some quality together time.

But you, Creatress, I think could have a good time anywhere and I like that about you.

I think this will be my last sale. I do donate what's left (and this time it was a LOT) to my local SPCA thrift shop. I like that they even recycle clothing if it's in too bad of shape to sell.

I still like to make a buck, so I'll do a yard sale, consignment, eBay... little things here and there.

Nope, not salvagable. And yeah, total rookie mistake (even though I'm not a rookie!) I had class Saturday morning though, so I had no choice. Poop.
