Just Call Me Nerd Girl

Have you been following the exiting developments happening with particle collision taking place in Geneva?! Anyone? Anyone? Hmmm, I think I may be alone in this thrilling moment.

Why do I care? What’s so interesting? Well, to quote an article from the Associate Press… “The experiments could reveal more about "dark matter," antimatter and possibly hidden dimensions of space and time.” Come on… how cool is that!? We’re talking full on Twilight Zone science.

Could they rip a hole in the space time continuum and bring to life our favorite TV shows? Who can say! Can they turn rude people into chocolate? Who knows. Can they alter the particles in your paycheck so it’s worth a million dollars? I’m just saying it’s possible.

Want to know why else I’m a nerd girl? As if this really wasn’t enough proof. The Monterey Bay Aquarium just successfully added their fourth Great White Shark to their famous Outer Bay exhibit. No one knows how long she’ll be visiting the aquarium for. If you judge my history, you’ll have a few months to get down and see her. I have seen all three in the past and for sure plan on making a trek to see this one. Even though I think my husband may be tiring of taking his squealing wife to look at sharks on his anniversary. Oh well. I’m a great white shark buff and wouldn’t miss it for the world. Besides, he can get me in with a student discount now.

How about you? What brings out your taped up glasses and snort laugh?

UPDATE: Ok, crap. I just saw that the aquarium released her. She wasn't feeding regularly and being that they are an amazing place, they let her go. BUT I MISSED IT!!! First one I missed seeing. Poop! My husband will be happy to be off the hook though (no pun intended.)

Do you realize that if this guy succeeds with his "invention" It could cause serious damage. There are other scientist that are twlling this guy not to mess with this kind of stuff and that it is dangerous! As cool as it maybe we have to think of other peoples and our own safety!

I have to disagree with you there. The top minds in the field are behind this series of tests and are assuring everyone that it's safe. I have done extensive reading (which doesn't mean I know everything going on by any means) and don't really see the danger. I think (as usual) there are a few people (most likely feeling left-out of being one of the chosen few involved) who are trying to cause a panic over it. If Stephen Hawkin is laughing and saying its safe, I'm inclined to believe him.

A couple of hundred years ago there was a scientist that was trying to invent and engine that could go over 45 miles per hour.  The people scorned him that a human body could not take that kind of speed.  The human body would implode on itself.!!! hahaha

It could be a "machine" that would turn into some kind of "quantem vacuum of millinium force" sucking all of our molecules into the 5th dimention through a pin hole and a straw.   (I live with a house full of nerds :).  Haha.  It's entertaining.

Good point MamaSeaShell, or even when people thought the world was flat and if you sailed away to the sunset, you'd fall off? New ideas and discoveries are almost always met with fear. It's just human nature.

Great post, Creatress. Over there in Davis, you shouldn't feel so alone as you embrace the scientific world. Here in Wilton, I doubt anyone's even heard of the particle accelerator because nice moms don't talk about smart stuff.

Oh and yes - you may be a nerd, but the geeks shall inherit the earth! BWAHHAHAHAHA!

Thanks wiltondi , you're so sweet! I don't even know where Wilton is? How's that for a Sacramento native. I need to get out more.

wifemotherdaughtersister , I can tell I'm getting older because I now LOVE NPR and listen to it more than KWOD. FOGGEEEEE!!! I actually first heard of the particle accelerator on Science Friday. Yup, I'm a nerd allright, but at least I'm in good company!
