GO!!!!!!!!!

Man-cub starts the 9th grade next Wednesday. In Davis that means this is his last year of Junior High School. Our HS goes 10-12th grade, but his grades still count as if he were in HS. Complicated, I know.

My classes start Monday. This will be my third year of chipping away at a degree, but the first time I’m jumping in with three classes. I’ve learned from the past that I needed to create my own study space. Most of what I do, I do on the computer. But for reading, I needed my own quiet place to focus. I’m easily distracted and having such a tiny house doesn’t help.

Yesterday I got to do my favorite activity, re-arrange the furniture. No really, I LOVE doing this. You know those HGTV shows where they take what you already own and re-arrange it to be totally new. I think that show was made just for me. I re-arranged my bedroom to also have a study corner for myself (see the picture here). I’m really pleased with it. I think it’ll be a great place to escape and study. Sure I’d love an iBook on that desk as well, but we don’t always get what we want. Maybe if I keep up my 4.0, I’ll get one for Christmas?

Since this years grades are so important for my son, I’ve stooped to bribery. I told him if he gets all A’s on every report card this year, I’d buy him an iPhone (and pay all the monthly service fees involved). Here’s how I figure it. If he has all A’s, it will save me money in the long run via scholarships. See! Win-win. We all need a little pay-off in the end and I have no problem rewarding for hard work.

So, fresh school supplies? Check. Study space for me and my son? Check. Empty wallet? Check. I think we’re all set for school.

You have a very peaceful, inviting space.  I just got a new desk from Pottery Barn with my AmEx points for freeeeeee.  I love it -- it makes my brain happy when I sit down to write/type/check emails & pay bills.

Oooo, Pottery Barn! I'm so jelous! My "desk" is my craft show folding table from Office Max. Hahaha. At least I don't have to worry about water stains or wrecking it.

Nothing beats a free nice piece of furniture!

I was wondering how 7-9 middle schools deal with the grades issue. Interesting...

Good luck to both you and your son! Are you sure you wouldn't want an iPhone for yourself? They're so cool.

Thanks for the good luck. I'll need it juggling as much as I am (I still think I must be nuts!)
You know, I just don't think I'd use an iPhone much. I think they're really cool and I see the appeal, but I don't even use my hubby's old iPod. I WOULD however put an iBook to good use! Call me the expensive one in the family!!!

Nothing is more motivating than an expensive gift. Maybe hubby should promise you $1000 coach gift certifice for holding your life together this year!

Hehehe. I got some nice goodies leading up (my new bag has some tiny matching friends). But yeah, expensive gifts are GREAT motivators. Why do you think the diamond industry created the 10 year anniversary diamond band?

You are not alone. My husband rearranges furniture too!  I tease him because it seems he needs to rearrange at least one room every 6 months. I'll go away for a weekend and come back to a whole new room in our house!  I tease him, but I am secretly happy about it.  I have no vision when it comes to interior design.  For him it is an outlet for stress.  When the house feels too small, he is able to rearrange it so it feels live-able for a while longer.

Good luck in school this year!

I know what you mean (about the "new" arrangement feeling better). I get bored and the house feels stale. I'm always much happier when it's new again.

I subscribe to the theory that your house should not only reflect who you are, but each room should serve a purpose. If you play a lot of games as a family, they shouldn't be hidden in a closet, they should be out where you play them (most likely by the dining room table). Drink a lot of wine? Invest in some nice wine racks to show off your pretty bottles. Love being surrounded by music? That should be out too.

I'm constantly re-purposing rooms according to what we use them for and enjoy. My husband has no vision. If it's a major re-arrangement, I still talk to him about it. Otherwise I just spring it on him when he's home from work. Hahaha.

Thanks for the good luck wishes!
