Even My Toes Are Tired

Ok, seriously now… my hat is off to you mommies who work full time. I just finished a 40hour week with Preschoolers and oh man… even my toes are tired. How do you women do it?! I told my boss today that there is no way I can handle 8hr days at the school. From now on, please call me for 4hour shifts only.

I’ve learned a lot this week

* Our local co-op is wonderful. I ADORE their food bars. They saved us from fast food many times this week.

* Leftovers are amazing. I used to hate them. Again, they saved my butt this week.

* Coffee is the best thing ever invented. I seriously wanted to hook up an IV drip to my mouth each day and just roll the cup along with me.

* Not enough people value art. If I heard one more parent or teacher say “art is so messy! YUCK!” One more time, I was going to scream. When you’re child comes home “messy” it means they were busy creating, sharing, playing, learning and living. NOT intentionally “ruining” clothes.

* A child’s smile is the best gift ever. A hug is great too!

* To re-state the obvious, Crocs are the best shoes ever.

* Someone made it so that toddlers napped for a reason. Sanity. Thank goodness for naps.

* Showers may be a better invention than even coffee. Seriously. Nothing beats a shower after chasing 35 kids all day.

* I can do anything I put my mind to.

Regarding that last one... I was pretty anxious about being thrown into a new situation it such an intense level. I turned it into a great learning experience though and came out the other side stronger (in many ways. Those kids are surprisingly heavy!) I am mistress of the multi-tasking. Who can’t wait for her man to come home with pizza and open a bottle of wine. Mmmmmm.

Coffee is the best thing ever. My 1st period students know better than to ask me too many questions before I have at least a couple sips of my daily mug. :)

Bravo to you for trying something new and challenging yourself. Enjoy that wine!

I usually feel it in my shoulders and arms...I always wondered what it would be like to manage a classroom full of littles.  I figured I would have more patience once mine are in school or grown up out of the house. I always have to have my naptime in the afternoon.

The wine was great. I'm still sore today.
In a way, a room full was easier. They entertain each other really well and work together. Then of course, when one wants something, they all seem to need it at once. Ah well.

hmoeckli , sounds like you have those kids on a schedule pretty well!

amaSeaShell , today it's my knees and back. I'm sure it'll be better soon.

My whole life, I never drank coffee.  Then I became a teacher.  Now I personally keep my local Starbucks in business.  Seriously, I'm like a twice a day addict.

Keep at the teaching!  Your body is just letting you know that you're using it in a different than usual way.  Congrats on a great week!

It is my whole-hearted belief that teachers shouldn't have to pay for coffee! :)

That's a REALLY good point. Then again, I don't think women should have to pay for tampons or pads either. Life just isn't fair sometimes!!!

I'm not sure I could survive without coffee and wine. Or crocs. As ugly as they are, they get the job done to perfection with the little ones.

Glad you are enjoying the teaching, even if it is wearing you out. You have the perfect perspective for preschool and preschool definitely needs more messy art teachers.

I love the art projects that my kids come home with. I keep almost all of them.

YAY! I used to as well. I strung some picture wire across one wall (any wall) down at his level with eye hooks (cup hooks work too). Then got little clips and used the space as his art gallery. All his work for the week would go on the wall and then I'd rotate it out. Some I'd keep, some I'd toss. At least they were all on display. He loved it, and so did family who would come by the house.
