Nature’s Gym
Just like a superhero, I got the call yesterday morning. Two teachers were sick at my It was also a lot of fun. My favorite was nap time. Getting to rub the backs of the restless little ones... There is nothing more satisfying than knowing YOU helped get a little one off to a well-earned nap. Even though I’ve only worked one day, I do have some sage words of advice to share (I know, you’re all stunned!) ~ Crocs are the best kid shoe ever invented. PLEASE don’t send your child to school in shoes that tie till they know how to put them back on themselves. I have never spent so much time putting shoes back on kids in my life! If they all wore crocs, there wouldn’t be a problem! It was also very hot and the crocs are light and comfy. Socks and tennies? Not so much. ~Pack Tupperware that your kid can open (or foods that they can open). Those little single string cheeses? Open them at home and put them in a little wax baggie or non-zip bag. This not only will make your child feel more independent, but will save the teachers a ton of time from having to open 20kids food items all at the same time. There were a lot of containers that even I had a hard time getting open! I can't imagine a 3yo being able to do it alone. ~Teach them how to wash hands. IF little ones wash their hands, all they do is get them wet. I remember learning to sing the alphabet while I washed. ~Your kid isn’t alone. I was interested to see just how many kids pick their nose and eat their boogers. Let’s just say it’s more than you would expect. ~Good manners go a long way. When you’re dealing with so many kids at once hearing yet another one scream “I WANT IT!” or “GIMMIE” gets old. The child I hear say “Can I please…” will for sure get my attention first, and a compliment back on their good manners. Like Batman perched on a roof, I now await my next call that a teacher is sick and they need me, or not. 10 comments from 6 users

Yeah, 8 hours was pretty long for my first day. I can honsetly say that I really liked it and miss it today. They called today and begged me to work full time. I was very flattered, but told them I'm happy subing for now. Now way could I do that full time. Hats off to teachers and parents who do (like John and Kate on TV). I'm recovering today and getting my house in order.

Oooo Rosie, I like that. Good one. As I'm not the lead teacher, I'm out of having to come up with any curriculum. I do have a HUGE art project lesson planner binder I can bring in. I'm working full time (just for next week) and am a little nervous about it. 8-4 m-f. I can't tell you the last time I pulled that kind of schedule. I'd better start taking Airborne! posted by

I'm planning my kids' 6th birthday party. They get to invite 2 friends each. I'm having it at a park. My MIL asked (with trepidation) if I needed her to be there; if the parents were dropping off kids and leaving. The funny part is I told her that it was no big deal if I was alone, with 9 kids I'd be under ratios! LOL! posted by

lmkoster99 , that's so funny that you bought Crocs yesterday! What a funny coincidence. We found them years ago and they're the best kid/beach shoe ever invented. Adore them. And yeah, talk about easy and comfy! Thanks for the compliment. ThatTripletMom , that's totally funny. I would be ok with 9 too. But being a triplet mom, that's another story. You go mommy! I hope the party is wonderful.
