Does this ever happen to you?
“I’m just going to check my e-mail real quick.” 1 Hour later… “Where did the time go?”
Don’t get me wrong, I don’t know where I’d be without it. Without my computer I wouldn’t have met many of the friends I have, know how to make banana bread, or get to the last mom coffee we had. I rely on it for the weather, movie times and to stay connected with loved ones. For me personally it’s also my main source of income as well as education (as I’ll be taking an on-line class for the first time this Fall). I also am aware of just how much it pulls me out of my “real life” and into its own world. This is something I’m working on. Rather than spending an hour reading friend’s blogs, I really should make more of an effort on dinner, or better yet! Do some –gasp- art! I call myself an artist and yet I couldn’t tell you the last time I just sat down and did something for the sheer pleasure of it. Not good. How about you? Do you notice that your computer sucks more of your time away than you’d like? What would you rather spend some more time on instead of checking your e-mail ten times a day (like I do)? 7 comments from 5 users

I agree with everything you said. We use google all the time and yes, also check our accounts on-line (both good and bad!). You'll get no disagreement from me! But I met you, and some other amazing moms here... so it has a warm humming place in my heart. posted by

My computer, unfortunately is still on dial-up because of my location. Although, I added another gig to it to make it faster. It still is slower than snail mail. So, it seems to take almost 10 min. to download a page sometimes. ugg! can you imagine uploading pictures? It takes forever.... I set up my art projects around the studio/office/computer area. When I am working on a project I turn around and draw or color. I can download or upload a page while I'm working. Then, take a break and read my mail or a blog or some info. I have two art projects going at the same time. Potty training and boy-fight control. I'm starting to get it down to a science. hahaha.posted by

Yeah, I both love and distrust my computer. The Internet has made my life more convenient: I pay bills online, I stay on top of my checking account, and it's great when it comes to resolving disagreements with my husband (Who said that? 1-2-3 Google it!)
However, it has caused friction at home. Both my husband and I think the other person is on it too much. But I love the fact that I have met so many friends on this website. I was really lonely when I first moved here, and the Internet made me feel connected to other moms.
