My Brown Thumb
Many lovely, talented women I know have a very green thumb. I picture leisurely weekends with them in their Crocks and floppy hats, happily spending hours tending their beautiful gardens. My mother-in-law is one of these green thumbed Goddesses. I am not. In the teeter totter that is my life, yard work ALWAYS falls last. This is unfortunate as we have both a very large front yard and back yard. When we first bought out house, I immediately struggled to transform myself into one of these women I admire. I made myself a special little garden full of mint, chamomile and lavender. I even made my own tea from my lovely garden! Fast forward two dogs (who will happily tromp through anything that attempts to grow from our yard), three jobs and one teen and I just don’t have the time. Sadly, gardening also falls last on my husbands to-do list. As you can see by the picture, our backyard has become a jungle. I promised myself that I would dedicate today to gardening. I’m finding myself in need of hip-waders and a chainsaw rather than a lawnmower. I must pay the piper for my neglect. I so wish I had a green thumb and enjoyed gardening. Instead I have a long to-do list and better go take my Claritin! 5 comments from 4 users

Like all house work, I just need to keep up on it better BEFORE it becomes a jungle. posted by

My own crafts are even transformed into gardening subject. I do- embellished gardening gloves! So if you want to stay fancy even in the dirt and grass- its a solution. Nice new picture of you on the profile! posted by

Our kids are now 6 months (adjusted age), and our yard is still out of control. The nice sunny weather has given the grass a jump start on growth. The weeds are even taller and thicker than they were last year this time. A couple of times, after driving into the garage to park, I've sprayed weed killer in the front yard, while the kids continued to sleep in their car seats. So far all I have accomplished is creating brown weeds, rather than green weeds. Every day I see the lawn mower just sitting on the back porch. It's so close, yet so far away....I don't have the time to mow. And if I did, I wouldn't be able to because I have to watch the kids. I've figured out how to grocery shop pushing the double stroller and pulling the shopping cart. But I know pushing the lawn mower and pulling the double stroller just wouldn't work. Plus even if it would work, the kids would cry due to the loud noise of the mower, they would get covered in grass clippings, and get dirt in their ears, eyes, and noses. Yeah, I know it wouldn't work. But it's fun thinking about it. posted by

I am a woman of my word and the yard is vastly improved now. YAY! I got one heck of a work out as well. It was a good day for it and I'm glad I did something about it. Even though technically it's supposed to by my man's job as well. I don't mind though. As I said, good exercise! Thanks Lena for the compliment on the new pic! :)
