I Want to Be a Part of ABA...
(Apologies to any "Evita" fans.)
So we've begun the assessment process for Bee's ABA program. I watched for a couple of hours as two people played and engaged with my boy one afternoon, all while figuring out his strengths and deficits. I have to say it was a total relief. For the past 4+ years, The Big Man and I have worked so hard with Bee, basically on our own. To have this support, up to 20 hours a week, is terrific. We have had Bee in a private behavior/play therapy since July of last year, one hour a week, and he has made some great strides with his therapist. Having consistent, daily therapy will benefit of all us, but especially Bee. We will be ending some therapies, and juggling his schedule around to accommodate ABA, but we really want to make it the primary focus right now. We should be starting in the next couple of weeks - another assessment at school next week, and then waiting for Alta to fund the program. The ball is finally rolling! 2 comments from 2 users

I'm so happy for you all that this is finally going. I'm sure it will be super helpful for you, and Bee. I know I learned a lot in observing different therapies with our son when he was young. For us it was Occupational Therpay that made the difference. Our therapist was GREAT. She mixed, OT, speech and sensory integration therapy into one experience. I learned a lot from her.
I'm thrilled for you guys. Let us know how it goes! What kinds of stuff are they doing with him?
