autumnems - > the names "momma" -> the horrors of a stuffy nose
the horrors of a stuffy nose

For the last two nights my 1 yr/o daughter has had really bad nasal congestion, keeping us both up. Every time I barely touch her nose she screams in bloody murder. Its a tough time actually getting to her nose, try using the nasal spray and not getting it in her eye as she wiggles for her life and screams for mercy. I feel terrible every time. And then she screams for at least another five minutes. Me frustrated, guilty and so tired sit there quietly knowing the nasal spray wont work unless she calms down and breathes right. Then she crawls over to me whimpering, and falls asleep with her cheek on my cheek and her drool is seeping into my mouth. In my exhaustion, the moment was beautiful.

When my little ones have stuffed noses, I use the nasal drops.  It only takes one or two drops to soften the mucous  and then you can work on suctioning it out.  I also use a moist towel to clean their nose.  Along with a humidifier, the little one should feel better in just a couple of days.  Don't feel guitly, you really are helping her.  Just think, you wouldn't want one of those suctioners either.

You poor thing, yes both of you.  A steamy bathroom, for twenty mins helps open the nose, sleep sitting up (recliner, if you have one) and having stay up with her the second night.  Also, antibotic oitment for the red nose twice a day really helps.  It's hard mom, a long nap and you'll feel so much better.  Hang in there, soon the baby will be grown and gone.

I never had much luck with nasal spray at all. It usually just tastes bad, and has cruddy side-effects (if it's anything other than saline). Vicks Vapo Rub does a great job. You also don't have to put it on their face for it to work (no touchie!). A vaprizer or warm tub soak is also great (nice suggestion there ladies). When she starts to feel better, or lets you touch her nose, regular vasaline on her nose is great.

Sweet, goey story!
