Am I the only one who is just appalled at Britney Spears' behavior?! I completely understand that she likely has a legitimate mental illness, but someone in her position has every option available for treatment...so why isn't she being treated?' After a few discussions around the water cooler, I haven't really come to a conclusion whether or not to feel sorry for her. On one hand I say, "Pull it together, sister, or you won't be able to see your kids!" The other hand says "Poor Britney, it must be hard living in the spotlight all the time." I think the bottom line for me is that it looks like she brings most of this mess on herself. So for that, I don't feel sorry for her. I feel sorry for her kids, as ultimately, they will be the ones to pay the price. As mothers, I think we can all agree that it's our worst nightmare to raise kids who think the rules don't apply to them, which seems to be the case for Britney. (Mental illness and poor judgement aside.) Although there are many child stars who let fame go to their head, there are some who don't, but you don't really hear much about them. Since my kids are now High School Musical fanatics, I was reading an article about Zac Efron recently where he was being very modest about his fame. He said "If it weren't for one Disney audtion a few years ago, I'd be just like 2,000 other blue-eyed, brown-haired guys in Los Angeles." Well said, Zac...maybe next time you could come to Britney's bedside with your words of wisdom instead of Dr. Phil. I'm just sayin'.... Since we were going to be in Elk Grove on Saturday afternoon, I took my daughter and her friend down to the Micke Grove Zoo in Lodi...we had a great time. If you read my previous blog posting, I didn't even know there was a zoo in Lodi, and we weren't disappointed. The zoo is small, but for the price (A $5 parking fee and $2 for adults and $1 for kids to enter) it was a great deal. (FYI, there is also a Funderland-type place next door, but it wasn't open...maybe just in the spring/summer?). There was hardly anyone there, so we had plenty of room to run around. The first animals we came upon were Buster and Mac, father/son sea lions. They were very cute and seemed quite content swimming around in their pool. We were also lucky to see feeding time at 3 p.m, where the keepers work with the animals and then answer questions. The zoo also has some monkeys and gibbons as well as a very cute and cuddly (as long it's in a cage!) mountain lion. But by far my favorite were the two bald eagles. I think I've only seen pictures of a bald eagle, so to see one up close if very cool. They are a lot bigger than they seem in pictures! So it's a bit of a drive from Sac, but if you have a full tank and a few hours to kill, it's a good deal. Their Web site is mgzoo.com. Enjoy! Does everyone but me know there is a zoo in Lodi? I just heard about it, and might take my daughter and her friend this weekend. They have a Girl Scout "cooking class" in Elk Grove, so if the weather holds, we'll zip down 99 and check it out. It's called the Micke Grove Zoo and it is located at 11793 N. Micke Grove Rd, which according to Mapquest is just off 99 (www.mgzoo.com). They bill themselves as a "small, high-quality zoo featuring over 180 birds, mammals and reptiles." That includes a Chinese Alligator, snow leopard and mountain lions...the best part is it's only $2 for adults and $1 for kids. What a bargain! If we go, I'll be sure to post a reivew, but in the mean time if anyone has been, let me know if it's worth the trip. :) |
