So, anyone who knows me, knows I run around in several directions at once and usually take on more than I can reasonably handle.  Whenever I find myself in that situation of overbooking my time, my husband gently points out, “you are reminding me of your mother.”  I consider that a compliment and at the same time a warning to slow down, as my mother is often frazzled.  But she is well-respected by anyone who knows her as someone who will come through for you when you most need it.

These past two weeks have been hectic for me in more than the ‘Tis the Season’ way. I have been painting the new house every spare minute, cleaning the old house to have it always ready to show, packing 5 people and all the presents for 10 days away over Christmas and finishing the prep for my parents 50th Anniversary party. In the middle of all this, the car went in the shop and had to stay overnight (great timing of course) and costs a fortune to fix what I thought was going to be  just a belt replacement –this it the only car that holds the whole family, and still try to keep up with my small business. I had to miss the kids' school parties Friday because I just needed that time to run last minute trip errands...aaaah!

I was looking forward to the time at my parents’ house as a break from all the home buying and selling craziness and a chance to see old friends and all the relatives coming for the 50th. A nice, restful break in paradise...

We arrived in Coronado yesterday (after the usual 9 hours in the car) and it is beautiful here, as always. But, I woke up with a very bad cold on Friday (with how much sinus pain I woke up with I thought it was a sinus infection, but Kaiser assured me it is a just a cold). Now, I am sick and bummed about it. I think I have been running myself ragged and it caught up with me!

As soon as we arrived, my mom ran down a list of things she needs help with for getting ready for the big 50th Anniversary party, as well as her social obligations leading up to Christmas. This shattered the illusion of a nice, restful break.  I had jumped from the chaos of my life right into the frenzy of my mother’s!

I thought that by traveling down so early, I would have a few days of my own socializing. But it looks like by coming down earlier than my siblings I am taking on the responsibilities of 'designated offspring' for a cross between 'Wedding Planner' and 'Maid of Honor' for my mom; or at least right-hand woman.  Payback for being the 'spoiled brat – youngest’ growing up!

How did I expect anything less than chaotic craziness? I do not know. This plainly points out how much I am truly my Mother's Daughter.

Anyway, all this means that I am hopped-up on cold medicine and, happily, at my mother's beck and call for whatever she needs me to do. After all, just like her wedding day, the 50th Anniversary is all about 'The Bride' too! As well it should be.
