When BFF were 2gether 4ever
My BFF from all the way back in 4th grade is visiting me this weekend. Actually, we met in Jr. Kindergarten, then went to separate schools until she transferred into my class in 4th grade. We were instantly best friends and the rest is history. She lives on the East Coast now and has managed to come to visit one weekend a year for the past three years. It is amazing to think about how long we have known each other.
BFF and I only talk every so often, now. We only see each other once a year. We are grown women with professional lives and adult responsibilities. Instead of jumpropes and rollerskates we have cell phones and laptops. But I treasure her friendship now as much as I ever did. And when we are together, we can still manage to stay up half the night whispering and giggling; transported back to that (non)slumber party magic. I was startled to think that my kids are now the age BFF and I were when we first met. I look at them and their classmates and wonder when they will be lucky enough to find that one person who will be witness to their lives as we are for the other - each holding the other's personal history on file - the touchstone who will real them back to earth when they go spinning off or who will just be there when it seems no one else understands. I hope they find what we did and appreciates the magic of it when it happens. 1 comments from 1 users
