The Sacramento Bee and KVIE encourages community members to donate new and gently used books to the Share a Story Children's Book Drive, which will run April 1-30. Donations can be made starting April 1 at any local Borders Books & Music or Sacramento Public Library location.
Since 2005, the Share a Story Children's Book Drive has collected more than 200,000 new and gently used books that have been distributed to children ages 1-17 in the Sacramento area through literacy programs, shelters and local non-profit agencies that help children in need. The books will be available for distribution to the kids this June -- just in time for summer reading.
In addition to donating books, community members can also help by holding a mini-drive at their business, moms group, school or in their neighborhood and by helping to sort books. The Bee will provide posters and bookmarks to those who sign up by visiting the Share a Story Web site at www.sacbee.com/bookdrive. Or, you can call the Share a Story Hotline at (916) 556-5667.
The Share a Story Book Drive is sponsored by The Sacramento Bee, SacMomsClub.com, KVIE, Borders Books & Music, The Sacramento Public Library and Two Men and a Truck.
