Do you have to check for monsters in the closet? What about reading her favorite book…again. Do you have a bedtime routine or does it change every night? SacMomsClub.com wants to take your picture. SMC is developing a new campaign to promote the site and we want to feature real moms in the ads. We're currently working out details and will schedule a photo shoot in the upcoming weeks. If you would like to be included, email your name and contact information to sacmomsclub@sacbee.com and include "photo shoot" in the subject line. Get ready for your close up! SacMomsClub.com had the opportunity to attend a free seminar this past weekend presented by the Sacramento Parenting Partnership. Bev Bos, an early childhood development specialist presented information on the importance of childhood memories and traditions. She spoke of developing self-esteem and the conditions needed for human growth. She also spoke about the pursuit of overall wellness in life. She challenged us to rid ourselves of guilt (as it’s a waste of time) get rid of the fritters, (fritters meaning time consuming distractions that zap us of our energy like gossip and complaining ) and reminded us not to lose sight of our own needs which is easy to do when raising children. The daylong seminar left me with time to reflect upon my own childhood experiences and how I’m shaping the lives of my kids. Aside from the seminar itself, I sincerely enjoyed meeting the other parents. There were approximately 100 people there, mostly moms, but some dads, too. I met a mom training for her first marathon, a mother of six and grandmother to seven, a dad who is homeschooling his son and a mother who made the transition from corporate world to stay-at-home mom. Despite our various backgrounds, we all had one thing in common; we were there to learn how to become more effective parents and help our children develop. Despite our diverse backgrounds and beliefs, we came together as a community of parents wanting to nurture our children and foster growth. It was a neat feeling and one that made me feel like a responsible parent. I hope to attend more seminars in the future and look forward to meeting and learning more about you. It seems like every day we hear about a new piece of technology that will make our lives "easier". From iPhones to iPods, computer games, DVRs and the list goes on. How is technology affecting us and how is it affecting our kids? Good, bad, indifferent? What do you think? A dream vacation...a girls getaway weekend...taking up yoga...learning to cook...running a marathon...having a baby...buying a new home? What are your plans for 2008? We want to know! Share with SacMomsClub.com the fun, exciting and interesting things you are going to do this year. More than a resolution - inspire us to get up, get out and make this a year to remember! At the end of January, we'll select two posts to win a $25 Gas Card! Share your plans today! |
