When I was a server/bartender at a Md. style crab house in Phoenix in the mid to late 90's, lots of celebrities would come in (football players, NBA and WNBA, PGA, LPGA) but mostly, I never recognized them. But I did wait on John and Cindy McCain and their family on several occasions. He was a big tipper, drank gin martini's and lots of customers would send drinks his way as thanks for favors he had done (like Westpoint and Naval Academy recs). It was great to chat with them and meet their family, and now he is running for president. Too bad they didn't have cell phone cameras back then! And I think that everyone in Phoenix has met Alice Cooper. Lastly, we waited at a valet with Emmit Smith on Christmas eve at Scottsdale Fashion Square. It was funny, the girls were flocking him, then they started asking my husband if he was a baller too - with me right there! I responded "No, but he is Time Magazines Man of the Year". Time had just released that their "Man of the Year" were the members of the Armed Forces. My hubbie is active duty and had just returned from deployment. They thought he was someone famous - not quite:) posted by

To crzkb: I went to high school with Vince Neil's wife, Lia (Leah) Gherardini, in Pleasanton. We knew each other just with a casual "hey" from time to time, as she was one or two grades above me. Her best friend's Dad was the mayor of Pleasanton back then, who lived three blocks from my house. She was certainly a rocker chick back then too! Thanks; I love reading all these cool encounters! posted by

I was bartending at a hotel on Christmas Eve. Vince Neil and his girlfriend (now wife) were visiting her parents in town, and they were staying at our hotel. Vince and his girlfriend came to the bar and had a couple glasses of wine while they waited to meet her parents. He pulled out a HUGE wad of cash to pay for the drinks. My friend's dad just met Sarah Jessica Parker... does that count??! ;) posted by

Before being a mom, I did PR for a local Sacramento Ad Agency. While on a business trip to LA with MGM (a potential new client) I attended many movie screenings, one with my life-long idol... Julie Andrews. I was always a Sound of Music fan, so that was a big deal to me. I wanted to watch her instead of the movie! posted by

When I was a kid, we lived in Los Angeles for a time. Our mother's boyfriend was hired to be a "Mannie" (a man-nannie housekeeper) for a celebrity-wife's kids. We would hang out with my mom's boyfriend and the kids some weekends. The kids' father was Mike Farrell, 'BJ Honeycutt" on M.A.S.H. When we went in to meet him he was proped up on the floor of his modest home, coloring in a color book with color pencils. I was impressed! I don't think he wanted to be obtrusive when children where coming over to meet him. He was and is a wonderful gentlemen, humanitarian and a vegetarian, too. At the time, he owned an all-vegetarian restaurant that he had invited us to go to. It was fantastic! posted by

Jane Fonda was married to a legislator way back in the days. On her travel to Sacramento she would work out at Capital Athletic Club, and we all know she is a workout fanatic. Well back in those days I was a work out fanatic too and a member of the Capital Athletic Club. There she was, Jane Fonda, I could see her in the reflection of the mirror as I worked out, I didn't want to stare, but I did. She looked fabulous. Then she was off the workout machine. I was almost done, but expedited my workout to get another glimpse. I entered the women's locker room and there she was, Jane Fonda all naked! Yikes I was so embarssed that I ran out, I did however manage to get a good look and I have to tell you she is quite fit and toned. I didn't want to get caught stocking her again, so I just did another 30 minutes on the stairmaster. I guess I was inspired by her healthy and toned body. Thank you Jane Fonda for inspiring me.

For my 30th b-day, my husband and a few of our friends took me to LA to hit all of the celebrity hotspots. It was 3 days of famous hotels, beaches, food places, bars and shopping. We had a blast and saw several celebrities. The most memorable was Lenny Kravitz. We went into Starbucks one morning and there he was waiting for his coffee. He was really nice and great to talk to!

I worked at the city's last original soda fountain when I was in high school, near 39th and J Streets in East Sac. One day, Sacramento native Tom Hanks came walking in. He was in town visiting and brought with him his school-aged son, whom he shared custody of at the time. Having grown up in that neighborhood, apparently Tom used to hang out there when he was a kid. He wasn't terribly friendly, and I recall he kept his sunglasses on the whole time -- probably more interested in quality time with his son than being recognized. But when I asked for an autograph, he quickly complied. Wish I remembered now where I saved it!

Many years ago (or so it seems), I worked in the hotel industry. One of our guests was Barry "Greg Brady" Williams. He came in and stood behind his manager as I checked him in. He asked me where the elevator was, and I was so starstruck that I could only stare at him and point down the hall. A few months later, the members of Marilyn Manson stayed at our hotel. They were on the rise to fame, and Marilyn was mad that I recognized him. I ended up talking to the one with the green hair (Daisy?) for several hours about what it was like being on the road. I think he appreciated being able to talk to somebody like a person rather than a rock star. I also met members of the Goo Goo Dolls, Modern English, and many other bands. The most polite and "down to earth" celebrity I have ever met is Waylon Jennings. He was a fun person to talk to when it was a slow time at work.

I used to work at a skating rink and once DJ'd a private party for Dennis Rodman's daughter. He was very quiet and just watched from the sidelines. Would have LOVED to see him on skates!
