I tried South Beach a few years ago (on my own with just reading the book and websites). It was ok. Not great. Too restrictive.

I don't like the idea of limiting your diet from ANYTHING healthy. The key is fresh foods, portion controll, healthy snacks and exercise. That last part is where I have issues.

My aunt just gave me a mini-trampoline to use in the house though. That should be fun. AND the whole family and I will be doing the Doggy Dash 5K tomorrow in Sac.

I was raised by three women who contantly thought they were "FAT" and on strange diets. So I think growing up around that really made me realize at a very young age how dangerous and nutty they were (and that they don't work). My mother went on the all liquid diet in the early 80's and almost died. She had an undiagnosed thyroid disease at the time. That really made me not trust those companies (like Jenny Craig and Weight Watchers). I think all they want is your money and it's nothing you can't do on your own if you want it bad enough. Save the $$$ for your new clothes!

My husband & I are getting ready to start OTC (Obesity Treatment Center) this month. We've both been on lots of diets, and this one is a full meal replacement (Shakes, pudding, soup). It's terribly expensive, but we're ready to finally get rid of all this excess weight we've gradually put on these past 10+ years. If anyone has experience with OTC, I'd love to hear it!

That sounds like the liquid diet that almost did my mom in. Just make sure you both get a FULL physical before starting.
