Community of Parents
SacMomsClub.com had the opportunity to attend a free seminar this past weekend presented by the Sacramento Parenting Partnership. Bev Bos, an early childhood development specialist presented information on the importance of childhood memories and traditions. She spoke of developing self-esteem and the conditions needed for human growth. She also spoke about the pursuit of overall wellness in life. She challenged us to rid ourselves of guilt (as it’s a waste of time) get rid of the fritters, (fritters meaning time consuming distractions that zap us of our energy like gossip and complaining ) and reminded us not to lose sight of our own needs which is easy to do when raising children. The daylong seminar left me with time to reflect upon my own childhood experiences and how I’m shaping the lives of my kids. Aside from the seminar itself, I sincerely enjoyed meeting the other parents. There were approximately 100 people there, mostly moms, but some dads, too. I met a mom training for her first marathon, a mother of six and grandmother to seven, a dad who is homeschooling his son and a mother who made the transition from corporate world to stay-at-home mom. Despite our various backgrounds, we all had one thing in common; we were there to learn how to become more effective parents and help our children develop. Despite our diverse backgrounds and beliefs, we came together as a community of parents wanting to nurture our children and foster growth. It was a neat feeling and one that made me feel like a responsible parent. I hope to attend more seminars in the future and look forward to meeting and learning more about you. 0 comments from 0 users
