Good to Great

Attention All SacMomsClub Members!

We are thrilled that you are part of this wonderful community of local moms.  The Sacramento Bee is proud of SacMomsClub.com and the members who make this site the destination site for local moms.

We are entering a phase where we will be doing some site development to implement some things we've wanted to do since we launched as well as suggestions we've received from our users.

While there are many great things on the horizon, we think YOU can provide even more great ideas. With your feedback we'll be able to make some changes immediately while reporting back to you in this blog about things you can watch for in the future.

So...go for it...post your suggestions, ideas, wishes, etc. here in this blog and we'll take all the information to our developers to see what we can do to make SacMomsClub.com meet your needs as a parent.

Share your thoughts with us...the first 25 posts will receive a $5 Starbucks Card.

From all the posts, one will be chosen randomly to win a Spa Day valued at $250!

Thanks in advance for your help!

If you want to share privately, email us at sacmomsclub@sacbee.com

I would like to see some "house rules" that other moms of teenagers use (to counter the "everyone else gets to stay out till....you're the strictest parents in town"

It would be nice when you have a hot link and it does not take you where you need to specifically go that you would at least include that in the column. I don't have alot of time at the computer and I certainly don't have the time to go on a hunt for the subject that the article is talking about! Frustrated!

I love the idea of having a central location for activities with children of all ages (and broken down by age).  It's hard to find places to go in Sacramento!  Especially indoor spots that are FREE or low-cost.  And the calendar idea is great.  I have to look in several places to learn everything going on.  The library, parks and rec, open spaces parks, and individual mom's groups.  Then I have to check out the bookstores to find out their events.  Can we have a central location so I can plan to enrich my children's lives?

I do foster care, so a section for us would be great!

I work with children with special needs and am disabled myself, so those special interests would be nice to see addressed.

Also, a section for what SAHM's offer who also work from home.  I do scrapbooking and cardmaking, but would love to also support the Pampered Chef and other gals out there working to stay at home.  We have many of the same challenges balancing family and work from home, so it would be nice to connect.  Even childcare share for our parties.

A childcare trade site would be wonderful too.

I'm single, so a single moms section would rock!

I find Sacramento to be more limited than San Jose was in terms of places to go with young children.  So all of these ideas would really improve my qualilty of life.  : )  And that of my children!

Hi, I am just moving from Washington DC where we had the most amazing online networking for mom's --- www.dcurbanmom.com.  I used that resource endlessly. I don't yet find a replacement with Sactomoms maybe talking to these people will instill some of the dc urban mom magic.

I would like to see the Bee Sponsor a Moms Picnic some thing that would bring us out not only to meet each other but to meet the people who make this happen.  I really think the SacMomsClub has community going for it and would like to see capitalization of that community.  I am sure you would get support from your corporate sponsors as well.  I love the site, I need to post more  :)

I would love some more info on local daycare options, including input from other moms.

Ok this one just occured to me and I am not picking on anyone because I don't read names and log ID's but I am turned off to see business ads in personal blogs.

It is fine in the message board section because I can choose what I look at but when I click to see recent blogs and I have to wade past....another rep....touting whatever.......it would be nice if they were seperated out for those of us who come to connect and not shop.

Thanks for your time and consideration.

I have read through a lot of great ideas so far!  I like the idea of a family fun calendar, and also a link to family friendly restaurant menus and reviews.

I think it might be useful to add a "Grandma's" feature to this page.  We have a lot to offer in the way of life stories and balance.  And younger mothers could come to us for help and advice...it would be a shame to waste all that experience.

Moms come in all ages.

I agree with all of the suggestions made so far.  I would like to see an area to sell and buy baby/kid things (like Craigslist).   I also find the site difficult to maneuver.  There is a lot of information and it seems like there should be an easier way to find my way around!  Thanks for listening.

  • I don't know if it's just me but I'm having difficulty with the wait time to navigate from one link to the next.  It takes about a minute to navigate to each link and therefore I don't explore the site because it takes too long.
  • I would love to see a place for users to review  (a la Yelp) kid-centric places in Sac. - from preschools, public schools, etc. to kid-friendly restaurants to kids' entertainment.  It would be nice to have the review indicate whether the place is appropriate for infants, babies, toddlers, or older kids.
  • A general printable calendar with upcoming festivals, museum events, etc. appropriate for children
  • An organized resource for information on kid-centric classes, such as Painting Picassos, Busy Bees Studio, Kindermusik, BabySigns, Tricks Gymnastics, etc.  Parents could rate the classes and let the public know if they are worth the money and time.
  • I'm an elementary teacher and I would love to see a section of fun literacy and pre-math games for parents to engage in with their children.  Also, tips on things to look for in your child's education experience and ideas for how to support your child's academics.  A list of recommended books by age for children to encourage literacy.  These tips/games could be linked to local museums (At the Railroad Museum, have your child count the number of trains he/she sees).
  • A section on cooking/nutrition with your child:  both to encourage nutrition and to create a stronger bond between parent and child.  To start, there could be breastfeeding resources and information, bottlefeeding/formula info, baby food info (how to make it, progression chart, etc.), reviews of restaurants with great kid meals, quick and easy parent-made meals that incorporate the child's help, ideas on how to incorporate more veggies into kids' meals, etc.  Perhaps an exercise component too?  Yoga for kids, Stroller Strides, etc.
  • An organized resource of local neighborhood parents' groups - links to Greenhaven Moms' Group, Wilhaggin Moms' Group, Meetup Moms, Moms of Multiples, etc.

Kudos on the graphic design of the site and the general overarching idea of focusing on Sacramento area moms.   I'm looking forward to seeing the evolution of the site.
