Good to Great

Attention All SacMomsClub Members!

We are thrilled that you are part of this wonderful community of local moms.  The Sacramento Bee is proud of SacMomsClub.com and the members who make this site the destination site for local moms.

We are entering a phase where we will be doing some site development to implement some things we've wanted to do since we launched as well as suggestions we've received from our users.

While there are many great things on the horizon, we think YOU can provide even more great ideas. With your feedback we'll be able to make some changes immediately while reporting back to you in this blog about things you can watch for in the future.

So...go for it...post your suggestions, ideas, wishes, etc. here in this blog and we'll take all the information to our developers to see what we can do to make SacMomsClub.com meet your needs as a parent.

Share your thoughts with us...the first 25 posts will receive a $5 Starbucks Card.

From all the posts, one will be chosen randomly to win a Spa Day valued at $250!

Thanks in advance for your help!

If you want to share privately, email us at sacmomsclub@sacbee.com

I would like more information on schools and preschools in the area and links to school websites

I would also like family activity information (from the Ticket?) linked as well as family friendly restaurant menus

On site in terms of structure and features I would love to see an IM feature over a chat room but I like both, and a bulletin so you could tell people new little things without having to make a whole blog or reach all of your friends at once. Think MySpace bulletins, I also think Groups could be good.

I wouldn't mind being able to decorate my home page like I can at CafeMom or Myspace either.

I appreciate the work that has gone into what we have so far and I am excited for the future.

I really like the groups on myspace if you guys could create something like that  where we could chat I'd probably be here much more to meet local moms.

I haven't fully searched your site so I may have just not found it yet...but...I live in the old foothill farms area and need help finding AFFORDABLE preschool for my son.  It would have to be relatively close since I only have a bike to take us too and from.  If you don't have it yet a search for this area would be wonderful:)

Thank you.  Good luck with the site.

I would like to see some changes on manuevering around the website. I find it cumbersome at times when trying to post messages and read blogs.

I think additional information on kid friendly hotels, restaurants, and museums would be nice. Maybe an entertainment section providing more than just seasonal childrens shows that are currently showing.

A discount section maybe. There are a number of parents out there who use coupons for diapers, formula, etc. Maybe a section including links to discount websites, coupon websites, etc.

I have truly enjoyed this website so far, I like the feeling of a community of mothers helping mothers.

As I was reading the comments, I saw tons of great suggestions. I like the idea of a discount page. Also, a chat room or IM feature would be fun. And ditto on more decorating freedom for personal pages.

I would also like to say that I find this blog site really easy to use and I've gotten to know great people. Thank you for making me feel welcome to this area!

I would love to see a forum area for Disabled Parents. I am a disabled parent of 3 beautiful children. I would love to be able to talk with and meet other parents who face raising children with similar challenges.

Thank you very much!!!!

Because being a mom encompasses many different age groups of kids, I would like to see more of what is happening out in the community for children at junior high and high school levels as well as what is available for moms with younger children.

I would also like to see a bit of education added to this site....kind of like a "Did You Know?" spot with just a QUICK daily tip or fact from history.  It could be something we share with our children, or it could be a parenting tip or information.

I would also like to see something on this site about how moms can make a change in our community/world.  It would be great to be informed of the many different organizations/non-profits that are out there.  It would be fabulous to have information about environmental resources.  Political info is good as well, as long as it is not biased.  Part of being a mom, I think, is helping to make good decisions for our children's future world and that comes with being informed.

I agree that a chat room would be a great idea.  Also, I haven't been able to find a search feature, where perhaps we could enter children's ages or interests in order to make it easier to meet people of similar interests.

Other than that, looks like a great site so far.

I would like to post classifieds and/or wanted items.  For instance, I need childcare for Tuesdays and Thursdays - and maybe there's someone out there looking for MWF and we could nanny share.

I like the concept of having a chat room. I am definitely someone who wants semi-instant feedback. I like seeing the pictures with the postings which enables me to make an instant connection with the writer. Since I am staying home this year a suggestion might be to have a classified section with job opportunities or items for sale. I have things that are in great condition, that are going into storage, which someone else may be able to use.

  • I don't know if it's just me but I'm having difficulty with the wait time to navigate from one link to the next.  It takes about a minute to navigate to each link and therefore I don't explore the site because it takes too long.
  • I would love to see a place for users to review  (a la Yelp) kid-centric places in Sac. - from preschools, public schools, etc. to kid-friendly restaurants to kids' entertainment.  It would be nice to have the review indicate whether the place is appropriate for infants, babies, toddlers, or older kids.
  • A general printable calendar with upcoming festivals, museum events, etc. appropriate for children
  • An organized resource for information on kid-centric classes, such as Painting Picassos, Busy Bees Studio, Kindermusik, BabySigns, Tricks Gymnastics, etc.  Parents could rate the classes and let the public know if they are worth the money and time.
  • I'm an elementary teacher and I would love to see a section of fun literacy and pre-math games for parents to engage in with their children.  Also, tips on things to look for in your child's education experience and ideas for how to support your child's academics.  A list of recommended books by age for children to encourage literacy.  These tips/games could be linked to local museums (At the Railroad Museum, have your child count the number of trains he/she sees).
  • A section on cooking/nutrition with your child:  both to encourage nutrition and to create a stronger bond between parent and child.  To start, there could be breastfeeding resources and information, bottlefeeding/formula info, baby food info (how to make it, progression chart, etc.), reviews of restaurants with great kid meals, quick and easy parent-made meals that incorporate the child's help, ideas on how to incorporate more veggies into kids' meals, etc.  Perhaps an exercise component too?  Yoga for kids, Stroller Strides, etc.
  • An organized resource of local neighborhood parents' groups - links to Greenhaven Moms' Group, Wilhaggin Moms' Group, Meetup Moms, Moms of Multiples, etc.

Kudos on the graphic design of the site and the general overarching idea of focusing on Sacramento area moms.   I'm looking forward to seeing the evolution of the site.
