The lottery for the charter school is tomorrow and I am so nervous,  hopeful, and excited. I love having something to look forward to and this is really exciting. We are hoping to win a seat in our local charter school.   I have heard great things about this school and I am really hoping that we will have placement. This is important to me because I have attended both private and public schools and I really value a good education. Unfortunately, I had spent many years in publics schools doing  "just fine" but once I entered private school in 7th grade, I was a D student who wasn't doing fine. I was behind my peers in the new school because the public school didn't have standards for each grade...they just passed each student to the next grade. 

 By choice I have reduced my work hours to enjoy my life and time with my children, so unless I want to work more to pay for tuition, private school is  really not an option.  Seeing President Obama speak and lead our country really has me thinking twice about private school. He attended one, if not the most, prestigious private school in Hawaii. In Hawaii, the public school systems is one of the worst in the country and so I just wonder how is was granted that opportunity to attend private school (serious $ here). President Obama was raised by his grandparents and by his mother who was a single mom for a good part of her life and I am absolutely positive that he would not be where he is today if it wasn't for not only his caregivers but his schooling as well.

 Regardless of how he got through school, paid or on a scholarship (that is how I attended private school), I want to give my children the best education that I can, ideally through public school. I want what I believe every mother wants for her child, a chance for a good education, for hopes and dreams, for sucesss,  and for more than she may have had.
