September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month
Fountains at Roseville Partners with Keaton Raphael Memorial to Honor Childhood Cancer Awareness Month in September with Myriad Fund-Raisers From Retail Events to Gifts for Donations at Guest Services, Fountains at Roseville is Dedicated to Helping Raise Funds to Support Families with Childhood Cancer (Roseville, CA – August 31, 2009) – September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month as declared in 1990 by President George H.W. Bush. In the U.S., over 12,000 children under the age of 21 are diagnosed with cancer every year, and approximately 3,000 of them will not survive the disease. Fountains at Roseville, in partnership with its retailers and center events, is helping raise funds for the Keaton Raphael Memorial (KRM) throughout September.
The objective of Childhood Cancer Awareness Month is to spotlight childhood cancer issues, raise awareness and stimulate community action. Although the childhood cancer community has been celebrating September as the official awareness month since 1990, most recently, Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton declared a National Childhood Cancer Awareness Day, which falls on September 13, 2008.
“We are thrilled to be able to partner with the Keaton Raphael Memorial to support them in their effort to raise awareness and funds during Childhood Cancer Awareness Month,” explained Gloria Wright, Fountains at Roseville general manager. “We are dedicated to supporting causes that help children in our community; we are honored to be able to share our resources to support them.”
Fountains at Roseville will be raising funds for the Keaton Raphael Memorial in several ways. Fountains at Roseville’s Guest Services desk will be the hub of the fund-raising effort as well as events with several retailer and on-site activities. Guest Services will assist with: · Accepting donations and provide donors with KRM “Caring Cards” · For every $25 donation made, the donor receives a Fountains VIP coupon book · For every donation made, donors can enter to win a “Fountains shopping spree” · Donation collections will take place at each Concert Series Night through Sept. 30 – Wed, Fri and Sat nights from 7-9pm
Additionally: · Fountains is donating all coins from the main show fountain in the month of September · Gold Ribbons will be displayed in the play area, symbolizing “September as National Childhood Cancer Awareness Month”
CURRENT PLANNED EVENTS (more events may be added):
Gold Ribbons: The “GOLD” Ribbon symbolizes the fight against childhood cancer and the need for increased awareness and research funds toward a cure. Gold is a precious metal and so are our children battling childhood cancer. By wearing the gold ribbon you are showing support for the approximately 12,600 children who will be diagnosed with cancer in the U.S. this year. Ribbons will be displayed throughout the Fountains play areas in September.
About Keaton Raphael Memorial On February 20, 1998, Roseville residents, Robyn and Kyle Raphael lost their five-year-old son, Keaton, to a deadly childhood cancer known as Neuroblastoma (cancer of the nervous system). Keaton endured a nine month battle of aggressive treatment before he suddenly lost his fight due to treatment complications.
In March 1998, the Raphael’s founded this memorial in Keaton’s honor and serves as a positive living legacy for other local children and families battling cancer. What began as a grass-roots organization has grown into a regionally and nationally recognized childhood cancer nonprofit.Still, grass-roots in nature, KRM understands the need to focus on families in our community and create positive solutions by building strong community partnerships. KRM is dedicated to helping families in Northern California whose children have been diagnosed with all types of cancer through; financial, emotional and educational support and resources.
