Online "talk" strangely comforting
So. This is my first online blog post. This is really my first experience with blogging in general. I have realized that since joinging this site and participating in some of the forums etc. this online world in strangely comforting. There is a freedom that comes along with getting your thoughts and feelings out - whether it's venting about a problem or irritation, or sharing something silly - different than a journal that no one else is going to see... Knowing others will read what you write and that it may possibly affect another person is weird but intriguing. I titled this blog Confessions of a Type A Scatterbrain - because that's me in a nutshell. Everyone who knows me in the "work" arena knows me as a very type-a, confident, agressive woman who gets things done. On the other hand, my husband often wonders how I can even hold a job, let alone run my own company. My thoughts? I think I have to be "on" so much with work and that I am always under a deadline that I focus so hard on my clients and my work, that when it comes to accomplishing things at home - I am admittedly, an idiot. Anyone else go upstairs to accomplish a certain task, like switching the laundry and when you get up there, you completely for get why you came upstairs in the first place or get totally sidetracked by something else? I DO. For the first time, I am finally understanding my parents' frustration with me as a kid/teen ... "No, not later. Do it now, because I know you won't do it if you wait." That was heard from my mom over and over when I was growing up ... then I started hearing it from my husband too! We tried comparing why I can be so type-a when it comes to work and so NOT when it comes to my personal life... My Ah-ha! moment? The power of the to-do list. I am a total to-do-list-a-holic. I love to make a list and systematically check things off. Every morning I make a task of items I have to complete for clients - so why shouldn't I do that at home. I have implemented the home to-do-list and I am finding intial success... As weird as it sounds, my husband has even learned that if he needs me to do something, he needs to email me a request. I'll keep you posted to see if it sticks. 5 comments from 4 users

My header was done in Illustrator & Photoshop - Adobe programs. I work as a full-time freelance graphic designer out of my home, creating visual communications materials ranging from logos, brochures, biz cards, catalogs and direct mail, to websites, enewsletters, ecommerce sites and more :) Lots of fun :) posted by

I am also a "Type A Scatterbrain!" and I seem to have a lot in common with you! I am ridiculously anal retentive at work about keeping everything in order...neat, tidy, organized, etc....but the moment I walk in the door at home I'm a totally different person. I forget EVERYTHING! The amount of details I have to remember in my personal life, being a wife and mother, rival what I have to remember working by day in a law office.
School schedules, parent teacher conferences, school lunches, monitoring homework progress, making sure kids read each night, plays, charity events, good grief the list is endless. I need a personal assistant at home to keep track of everything!!! Nice to know I'm not the only one. posted by

You are totally not the only one. When my "at home Jen" friends meet my "work jen" friends, I often hear ... Are we talking about the same person?" A personal assistant would be SO nice ... a cook would be better. We finally broke down and got a housekeeper last year and I have to be honest, I think it saved my marriage. My husband does the laundry, dishes, cooking, grovery shopping ... and the one this we always argued about is that I don't do anything. And frankly, who wants to clean anyway - that is so not fun :) And the last thing I want to do at the end of a work day is work on my house. After a long day working, I want to play with the kids and relax. And, if I do have some time, I'd like to get to the gym or go for a walk... or play at the park. So, finally one day last year my husband gave me an ultimatum ... clean the house, or I am hiring a housekeeper and deducting the cost from you allowance. Now this sounds worse than it is ... to budget, we give ourselves each a set amount of $$ to spend on whatever we want each month. My response - get a housekeeper, because I am not going to do it. AND WE HAVE NEVER BEEN HAPPIER. We both ask ourselves all the time - why didn't we do this sooner! Oh, and I'd like a totally hot personal trainer to visit me each day without a shirt on and make we workout and get in shape - celebs have it so easy :)

Greetings fellow anal mom. Hahaha. Let me say how much I LOVE the banner for your blog. VERY nice!
I couldn't agree with you more. Once there was a time that I considered blogs to be a little strange and self-serving. Now I happily admit to being a 'blogger' as well. A day I couldn't image five years ago. It is very soothing and comforting, especially here. It's a big enough site to have many participants, but we all have so much in common that it feels more intimate than it is. Knowing we all live pretty close to each other and are all moms, makes is very comfortable for me (and others I'm assuming).
I'm glad you make a home-blog here.
