Many know that over the last several months I have been working with an incredible committee to plan the annual fundraising event, The Celebration of Hope for the Down Syndrome Information Alliance, taking place Monday, November 10th. This year's adult-only event is being held at the Esquire IMAX Theater in downtown Sacramento. The Esquire IMAX has graciously donated the facility!! Chipotle has donated the food and dinner for our volunteers. Pyramid Alehouse has donated the beer for the...

If you're looking for a fun day trip - bring a picnic and check out Muir Woods. We hiked for a couple hours ... yes the kids hiked the whole time and did great. Carter got pooped out about 3/4 of the way through and I ended up giving him a piggyback ride. He almost immediately fell asleep on my back so I got a little extra exercise on the last leg of the hike! We got to see beautiful BIG trees, swarms of ladybugs, lush "junglt-like" plants and it was cool and shady most of the...

With a boat and a pool, I grew up in the water. My husband had a pool growing up as well ... Last summer marked eight years of us not having a pool - and we were so tired of driving to grandma and grandmpa's houses to swim! Last summer we finally put in our pool. The payoff has been amazing - everything we wanted. More family time. More time outside. More fun playing at home. Shopping less for things we don't need. Getting more exercise and a better tan ... As the weather is...

One of the things we did to celebrate my daughters birthday was going to the Rivercats Game. We went the night of her actual birthday. Let's back up a bit. At school she brought these fabulous cupcakes frosted to look like  watermelons and everything was about her that day! At school she got this big paper crown that said Happy Birthday Natalie on it and she wore it all day. ALL DAY. She wore it everywhere, even the Rivercats game and was SO proud of it. Everywhere we went people...

Question of the day - How do you deal with bullies and how do you discuss it with your kids? My daughter is in kindergarten this year and it is fabulous. We love her teachers, her school, and her class. My husband and I and Natalie are very happy with our luck! But, there is a little girl in the other afternoon kindergarten class (there is two) who is not a very nice girl. She actually used to live on our street and my daughter played with her when they were very little. Unfortunately...

Train Town just outside Historic Sonoma Square is a fabulous place to take the kids ... they have a little snack bar and some carnival syle rides like a airplances, small ferris wheel, carousel, dragon mini roller coaster etc. But the BEST MOST AWESOME part of Train Town is the TRAIN and the mini city it takes you to! The train is a real miniature steam engine and is one of the only ones in existance. The main round house is always our first stop - the kids love to get up close and check...

So a while back I was flipping channels and came across the Food Network and Everyday Italian was on. What caught my eye were the delicious, mouth-watering artichokes that were being made. Let me preface this by telling you how much my family loves artichokes. We has our own artichoke plan t gowing up and ate them all summer long - at least a few times a week. We love them. Anyway, we hosted a Father's Day BBQ for both our families and when deciding what to serve, I decided to try the...

So, we took the kids up to Grandpa's house Saturday morning because Brian needed to weld a bracket for our new BBQ and he promised to take the kids fishing. No one can resist fishing at Grandpa's house - S&J Mandarin Grove is located on 5 beautiful acres in Newcastle, CA and when it's not harvest season (when everyone is working their tails off) we get to play up there and take advantage of the pond, quad rides, gardening, swimming and more with Grandma and Grandpa. When the fish...

OK. So Carter got up today at 6:15 ... and cried until 7:40 when the little boy I watch on Wednesdays arrived. Not even a pancake with whipped cream could cheer him up. After preschool, I thought it's be fun if the three kids decorated and baked sugar cookies. The big mistake came when I mistakenly thought that I could leave the room during the decorating - Carter took that opportunity to immediately dump all of the sprinkles, M&Ms and chocolate chips all over the kitchen floor! When I...

I heard an interesting thing the other day. Researchers believe that each person is the average of the five people they surround themselves with the most. Kind of like you are what you eat ... But you are who you hang out with. Makes sense. If you hang out with rude complainers, you're going to pick up those traits and be a rude complainer. If you hang out with lazy people you are going start being lazy to. If you hang out with pessimistic people, you likely will become fairly pessimistic...
