Hello, my name is Blanca M. Lawton and I am the director and creator of  The Spanish Immersion Program, a program designed to assist in building and strengthening confidence in speaking Spanish.

I have been asked by parents on numerous occasions to share tips in regards to the introduction and reinforcement of Spanish as a second language at home.

My most effective recommendation: Label each item in your house, one room at a time, beginning with the living space in which you spend the most time. This is a surprisingly useful method and you will find yourself passively expanding your vocabulary on an almost constant basis.

School age kids can read and will ultimately ask you too! You can have as much fun with it as you'd like!

Let's start with the kitchen:

Start by labeling the large items first; next you can add simple words like Abierto for open or Cerrado for close.

El refrigerador, La estufa, La tarja, los gabinetes,La alacena, La silla, La mesa,  (the refrigerator, the stove, the sink, the cabinets, the pantry, the chair, the table)

Let's practice: El refrigerador esta abierto!

Now write the command: Abre  meaning (open) or Cierra (close)

You can now begin playing and combining the words to ask :

Abre El refrigerador por favor, Cierra el refrigerador por favor, etc. Don't forget Gracias and De nada (thanks and you're welcome).

Continue with the smaller items in one particular area like in the cabinets: cups, plates, forks, spoons, knife etc (vasos, platos, tenedor, cuchara, cuchillo) etc.

Let's add the word Pasame Give me:

Pasame la cuchara por favor!

Now your are in your way to bringing Spanish to your home!

If you would like more information about the benefits of a bi-lingual home or want to learn more about our Spanish programs ranging from infants to adults, you can contact me at info@thespanishimmersion.com or visit my web site www.thespanishimmersion.com  you can also call me at 916-486-8282
